I think my Texel boy has cheilitis! Is there anything I can do to clean it up before I can get an appointment with our exotic vet on Friday? F10 ointment etc? I suspect could have been a nip from his brother for getting too close to his food that some muck has gotten in. It’s come up all of a sudden! I feel like a terrible pig mum!

Hi

I am very sorry.

I would rather leave it for just 2 days so it is easier for your vet to make a correct diagnosis and then go in fully for the recommended treatment.

Skin issues that have been treated on spec by the owner are like wiped crime scenes for a vet, as hard as it may be for you to sit on your instincts.

Generally our advice is to leave alone before a vet has seen it.

Don’t feed any fruits or tomatoes at present (not that it should be fed a lot anyway but acidity is known to be a cheilitis risk).

Hope he is ok
