Hi all ☺️

I have noticed that my 3 guinea pigs pee and poop a lot in our hay box wich is wonderful.at the moment we are using newspaper , wood pellets and lots of hay.
But I was trying to find solutions for them to be dry and for as humans to not spend tons of money in bedding for the litter tray, have you tried to put chenille mats( bad mats) in the litter tray and top it with lots of hay? ( Of course the idea would be to change this mat every day or 2)

Any ideas?

I don't use hay trays, just a pile of hay on the cage floor but I do use bath mats in that area so I don't see why you couldn't use them in a tray. I put newspaper underneath the mat as It's also their favourite wee spot!

Thank you very much, I like the hay tray because I also put a cover on it so it is dark and they love to wee there❤️😂

I also use bath mats (bobble mats) under their hay pile. I change it completely every 2 days.

I would advise using a horse wash bag. That way no hay clogs up the washing machine.

I got a bobble mat today from Aldi middle aisle at £4.49 so a bargain!
I am thinking of using it in their hay tray as the fleece gets lots of hay stuck,.
Is it possible to cut the bobble mat in half without it fraying in the washing machine?

It depends on how tight the rows are. With some ones I got from b and m I could cut them in half and hem the raw edges. It was all sewed by hand but has lasted several years of machine washing. There isn't enough room between the rows on the ikea mats to do it.

The one I got from Aldi is quite tight between the rows and is too tough for a sewing machine
I am going to try folding in half in the hay tray as the length is fine. I put newspaper under it anyway.
Can use in the cage if not

Yes I cut mine in half. A few have frayed but not by much. Most of them are absolutely fine. I can’t remember which ones I got from where though. 🤦🏻‍♀️
