my guinea is proovin to be fussy he doesnt like carrot lettice or celery am I ok to try him on cherry tamatoes? and corn and does the corn have to be fresh?

Cherry toms are ok but only in small amounts as tomatoes can make their mouths sore.

Have you tried pepper and cucumber?

Hi love :)
cherry tomatoes are fine, but just not too many O0 they're quite acidic so maybe one small one a day, but if you notice you're piggie gets a sore nose or mouth i'd stop feeding them O0
LOL a fussy eater eh ::) ::) ;D ;D ;D corn is fine also particularly if you can get you're piggie to eat the husks as well, it's good for their toofies. My fussy boy will only eat the little nibblets of the corn, and fresh is always best O0 O0 O0 O0

Hi there love :smitten:
it's now 9.15am thursday morning, we're 10 hours ahead till this weekend then we shift our clocks back to normal again so then we'll be 9 hours ahead of you (are you confused yet :D :D :D :D) this drives everyone insane every year.

Yes love the peppers from the supermarket, our boy loves the red but i used to feed them the green and i do remove the seeds as i think they'd choke on them :(

;D I am used to it now and say good morning or good night to our friend without even having to think of it now

LOL well done, i find it confused most people cause of the changes we just get used to being 11hrs apart and then you go onto daylight saving and we revert back to normal :D :D :D :D :D

yep peppers are a good choice. Do you chop the veg up into small pieces? It might make him eat more. Cut a cherry tom in half, otherwise they can't get their teeth into it ;D You could try a small bit of apple but not too much O0

well he doesnt like fresh corn peppers cress tamatoes or strawberrys what else can i try :'(

I would keep trying him, some of mine won't eat certain veggies but i still give them & they do eat them eventually.

You can try him with parsley, broccoli, spring greens, curly kale, apple, mint, dill. All in small amounts so as not to upset his tum :)

have you tried different sorts of lettice & also persisting with all the above as i find mine will turn their noses up at anything different initially but then they will have a nibble & more over time.......Try some herbs too mine presumably love the smells?

his a pain he dont like the treats i bought him from pamperedpiggys either argh :tickedoff:

dont despair i'm finding patience is a key factoir as well. Mine didnlt even like hay when they had grass around but since i've ran out they have started loving it, although i do have a couple of kilos of grass en route i'm thinking it's good to get them used to a variety of goodies.

Just keep trying. It's easier if you have other pigs to teach new ones that certain veggies are good and not there to kill them. Ignoring new foods is an instinctual thing - "neophobia" (fear of new things) it's called. They'll only try small bits of new things in the event it may make them ill. It's also a good thing as if they wolf down a new veg it can upset their stomach until they get used to it.

Just stick with it, eventually your piggy will start trying new things - just try not to get stuck in a rut of feeding them the same thing over and over because it's all they seem to like. I have a pig who was literally just thrown a carrot now and then and all he would eat were carrots. The others soon taught him that there was much more to the veggie world than carrots!

My skinnies go mad for tomato, pepper, cucumber, anything really. They are proper little piggies... ;D ;D

well i took out the cucumber today and gave him some corn and peppers and a strawberry he ate most of it after sticking his nose up it for a while then i gave him some cucumber for being good :-*

If you give them several different kinds of vegetables every day and unlimited hay you would find they wouldn't eat all the pellets anyway. Mine get about 1/3 of a bowl of pellets a day each and there's always some left when it comes to filling them up. Burgess recommends feeding 30g per pig per day (or 3% of their body weight so a bigger pig would get slightly more). Oxbow recommends the same (1/8 - 1/4 of a US cup which is between 20 and 30g).

Filling them up and topping up what nutrients the piggies get is all pellets really do. Though the added vitamins are supposedly stablised they are nowhere near as nutritionally complete as fresh vegetables. The fibre in pellets is far, far lower than what they get from hay - pellets should NEVER be a substitute for hay.

As for mix feeds... they're the guinea pig equivalent of steak, salad and chips. Naturally the guinea pigs would do what we do... eat what is tasty in the mix over what is good for them!

Both my girls are fussy eaters. They don't like Cauliflower, Cucumber, Corn or peppers. From advice on here though, I did buy them fresh parsley at the weekend and they absolutley love it :smitten: :smitten:
