ches chews the bars when it's veggie time, and when he wants something like hay or his pellets or just attention. it's fairly recent thing.

i always try and block the area but he finds another place.

seems tonight he has overdone it because i noticed he didn't look 'right' and he is eating slower.

could he have done some damage to his teeth or jaw? :...

Poor Ches, how is he looking today? Burt has taken to chewing the bars a lot too. We stop it by blowing it a little puff of air onto him (sort of how angry piggies snort at each other), he doesn't like it and by the third time it is usually enough to put him off chewing. Have you checked his teeth? I suppose it's possible he could have broken a tooth, but then they do eat really hard things like wood all the time, so who knows. Hope he is OK x

he's fine now, thanks for asking.

when i noticed he seemed a bit quiet i got him out and checked his teeth which were fine, and felt along his jaw which he was fine with aswell.

he was eating about 10% slower, if that. but i think he just shocked himself and made it a bit tender more than anything.

my o/h rang the vets and they said we can give him a short course of metacam as a precaution and bring him in if he is still eating slower in a couple of days. but he's eating normally now.

i've managed to find a way to block the bars aswell now. if he does go to bite them i just lift him down gently and he generally stops.

x
