Bedding

Thanks.
Can't help much on Piriton,as Kim only had it for 2 days,as the new vet said to stop all medications except Lasix,so she can see if it's working. She said Sudafed could be used too(instead of Piriton).
Yes,Karen is at Broxbourne.
Where is the best place to buy Fleece os Vetbed on the internet,as my local petshop doesn't sell them ?

fleece can be brought from most sewing or craft shops and vet bed as far as i know online or you can usually buy some at the vets, although my vet let me loan it. xxxxxx

I buy regular polar fleece off eBay - I have currently got three different sets of printed fleece for a 7x4 cage, each set cost about £10 each. If you search "fleece" under the Fabrics category, it'll narrow your search down to what you need. Anti-Pil or polar are the most common for piggie fleeces.

Lasix

Phoned the vet, as arranged ,with a progress report.Kim's breathing is no better. The vet said there was no point going on with the Lasix,as it would have shown some improvement by now,if she had fluid on the chest.
She said it could still be an allergy,or damage left by a previous infection. She suggested leaving Kim with no treatment for a week,to see if she improves without the hay bedding, and then think again, possibly another xray.
Kim is still perfectly lively and eating well,so i am still hopeful of a solution.
Thank you all for the info on bedding.

Hay allergy

Well ,it is looking like Kim has an allergy to hay dust,as she has been on towelling for ten days now,and most days her breathing is much quieter. We have even had some days with no noise at all ! The vet says try her on no meds for a further 2 weeks, and review the position.
I am so glad for the good advice i got on this forum, and for a vet who knows what she's talking about, because Kim probably wouldn't still be with us if i had gone by the first vet's advice !

Fantastic update, I am so pleased you were able to work out what was up with her.

I got Vetbed for the girls, which is much better than towelling, but unfortunately Kim is quite wheezy again. The vet has put her back on Piriton, but no change so far.I guess it may be impossible to solve the problem completely,as she has to eat hay to survive, and she eats a LOT of hay !:(

glad the piggy is much better :-)can I just say that my charlie has had a funny chest on and off for over a year and sometimes it sounds bad, but then its fine, and "touch wood" hes is still going strong after a year and a half of this bad chest x

Just caught up with this thread and read right thru........i'm astonished by the first vets suggestions malletheadmallethead
Sooooooo glad everyone has pointed you in the direction of a lovely vet who's treating her with compassion and knowledge!
We'd just like to send some healing wheeeeeeeeeeks from us all xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>

Thanks for the healing wheeks ! My vet now suggests trying some Metacam anti inflammatory drops,as the Piriton hasn't worked. If Kim gets any worse, she has suggested xraying her again,as the previous one wasn't very informative. Kim has now changed from a wheeze to a snort, but doesn't appear to be bothered at all.I have often wondered if it gets on her sister Katie's nerves, but she doesn't appear to notice.
