Hi all, Oreo was in the vets last week as he wasn’t eating and was prescribed a bunch of meds, antibiotics and anti inflammatorys. He hasn’t gotten better and started making wheezing noises so i have taken him back to the vet where he is now on oxygen and going to have a chest xray meeting anaesthetic, which he’s a higher risk for with his issues at the moment.

Just wondering if anyone has had similar experiences with their piggies? They also want to keep him overnight which is so scary as he’s never been away from home, safe to say I’m a panicking mum right now for him!! Would be nice to hear your experiences?

For reference he is at Ashleigh Vet in Chorlton which is an exotic vets.

I’m so sorry Oreo is poorly. He’s in the best place to get to the bottom of the problem. I know how it feels when they are at the vets. Such a worrying time. Sending you hugs. And healing vibes to Oreo. Try to keep busy distracting yourself as much as you can.

I have had several piggies staying in hospital at Ashleigh vets in the last year and they've always looked after them well. Does Oreo have a friend with him. If not that might help him feel better away from home. They don't charge for friends staying.

Last time my boys were in I was really anxious about them and they were very kind if I rang them occasionally to see how they were doing, even on the out of hours vet number. As @weepweeps said, try and keep busy so you're less worried about him.

He doesn’t, he’s never bonded with another piggy, I did send him with his teddy and blanket tho that he likes to make it feel more homely. That’s good to know I might ring and check on him later tonight then! Thankyou so much

Thank you all we got the diagnosis of pneumonia yesterday and he stayed overnight. They also checked his dental and he has two mouth ulcers. He isn’t responding to antibiotics and isn’t eating. They’ve swapped meds and are keeping him in again tonight but could be a tough decision day tomorrow sadly. I’m going to see what the vet thinks about me bringing him home tomorrow as I know he will be a lot more lively in his own environment with me than he will at the vets. But ultimately I will have to choose what is best for him, lots of tears this afternoon at the thought of anything bad happeninf

What a worry. Sending you hugs. I agree he will be more comfortable in his normal surroundings with you. You can give him his meds, feed him, keep him warm and monitor him. But if he’s really poorly and he takes a turn for the worst they can help him quicker if he’s there.

Some piggies go off food when they are on antibiotics. Are they/you giving probiotics before or after the antibiotics? Also if he’s not eating properly can they give him a gut stimulant? My Pebble has got some at the moment. I’ve never had a piggy that has been prescribed them before. But it can’t hurt.

Keeping my fingers crossed 🤞🏻

I don’t think they are. I’m going to ask if he can come home tomorrow afternoon to see how he is and I’ll ask for the probiotics too, if he’s still poorly I can take him back but I don’t think he’ll be back to “normal” ever at the vets he needs to be home but will see what they say tomorrow! Thank you <3
