Hi
Over the last few weeks I noticed that my piggies have started to chew their correx. I covered it up and put cardboard tubes over it, because I don't want them to be eating plastic. Is it dangerous for them as I assumed it was and I'm now really worried!
Anyway, the places they are chewing is under the top floor, where they cannot be seen. It's also where one of their hidey houses is. Does anybody have any tips for deterring them? It's not as much as that I am worried about the correx looking scrappy - I'm not particularly bothered about that, (yes it would be nice for it to stay in tact but..) I'm more bothered about the piggies swallowing it and it not coming through and causing problems.
Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks!

My piggies chewed less when they had hanging toys such as alfalfa rings and just wooden dangly toys. You could give that a go, but pigs will be pigs and they love to chew everything they shouldn't !

Try putting more things to keep them busy in the cage too, might be there just a little bored, a bored/stressed horse chews at there stable, maybe the same applies for piggies ?

I make them a veggy kebab every so often, which they love! I just checked and it's not in there, so I'm wondering where it's gone...!
They've got 2 tubes, two big hideys, a pigaloo, a seedbar chew, toilet roll tubes stuffed with hay, veggy kebab and a wooden chew rolly thing!
Maybe they're just not interested in some of their toys perhaps..?
Thanks for the reply :)
It's Bingo's birthday soon, so they'll both be getting loads more toys then as well!

My piggies have loads of toys and half of them they don't like, such fussy pigs, if you try a few different things, and different variations and just try switching the toys around every clean or so, and they can sometimes like toys they never paid any attention too !

Happy birthday to bingo, whenever it is !
Hope he enjoys all his presents ! (:

what do you skewer your kebabs on, how long do they last and are there any veggies that work better than others? Sounds like a great idea!

I've done kebabs before and i just use a thick string and make sure i take it out when they finish so they don't chew it, just tie a knot in the bottom and use a turkey needle and just poke through chunks of veg (:

Not sure how you do it though (:

I use a thick piece of wire- I will answer in more detail once I'm on my laptop again!

Katie Krafter- I use a thick piece of wire and tie it off at the end. There are no sharp edges and as it is really thick, the pigs can't break it. The paint doesn't come off either. I'm not sure where the wire came from, I just found it around somewhere and then found it came in handy!

twiams- I'm not entirely sure when Bingo's birthday is, but she was about 8-10 weeks when we got her, so she was probably born late April, early May time. I also cannot remember whether she is going to be 5 or 6 this year, I've lost count...! I think she'll be five, I think it was 2007 we got her. I also use a turkey skewer to poke the veg!
