Seeing the other previous cardboard thread made me wonder whether when guinea pigs chew cardboard, do they actually swallow it, if so would it be harmful to them?

Because my girls chew the cardboard down like anything, and I find a few bits of cardboard shreds on the floor!

I think mine swallow but not 100% sure. I've never had any issues they eat the paper off cardboard chews and eat chunks of kitchen roll tubes too on occasion

I'm pretty sure mine swallow the cardboard as well. They're not the brightest crayons in the box :))

Isn't carboard just made of trees, like paper? So they're just ingesting wood fibre. I can't see much harm in that. Unless they use chemicals to treat the wood in some way?

I think mine probably eat it, especially the cardboard tubes you get in Wilkinson's & Asda. I don't give them glossy cardboard though or cardboard with lots of glue.
