Chewing on nothing?

Lately, I have noticed that one of my piggys have been just chewing nothing lately. I see this sometimes but he has just been doing this like almost all the time now when he isn't moving. He has recently been back from the vet because of a back molar infection so is this normal? - Thanks!
 
If he already has had a dental issue I would keep a close eye on him and monitor his weight to make sure he is getting adequate nutrition in. Sometimes grinding teeth can be a sign of discomfort... is he behaving normally otherwise? It's possible that he's just chewing food from his last meal that is still in the back of his mouth- since hay is hard to chew, it's not uncommon for pigs to keep it in the back of their mouth to continue wearing it down, hence chewing on seemingly nothing.
 
I think he has mostly recovered from his dental issue cause he has been eating normally for about a week now. He has been relatively active and his behaviour has been normal too.
 
Maybe you could weight your piggie daily,as this is the only true reflection of how much piggies are eating.step in with syringe feeding if losing weight.the molars can overgrow very quickly.does your piggie look like he is chewing on glass.which can be a sign he is having problems with his back teeth.i agree with the above posters.i hope your piggie recovers well.

Chewing on glass? Or grass?
 
I was just reading on forum about chewing as had concerns also & came across this post. I hope you boy is ok & no other dental problems. I’m a bit concerned about one of my girls as she’s been doing the same thing. She keeps chewing but isn’t eating anything & moving her jaw from side to side. She’s a bit grumpy when holding also & loved being held so I need to take her to vet to check back molars as this is my worry. I hope I will get an appt with lockdown. Iv tried to look at her teeth but no luck as she squirms & gets frightened. X

If you are concerned then do see a vet. It’s simply not possible for an owner to check the back teeth (even if you knew exactly what problem you were looking for) as that is where, If there are dental problems, often occur. A vet will still certain issues

Yes I definitely need to see vet & just hope they are able to see all the molars. Iv only had the girls a few months but during handing Iv noticed princess chewing on nothing as strange as it sounds the last few days & wasn’t before. I will phone tomo as they need a health check. I may just be getting paranoid again like when I thought queenie has an uri which turned out to be nothing but guinea pig noises & breathing was just because we only had her 2 days so being held made her anxious. Best to check though for sure how both girls molars are looking. I only realised they have molars through joining the forum. My mums rabbit had awful dental issues & passed away so I’m extra worried at the thought of my girls having anything x
