My guinea pig chewed on one of my headphones.
He did not eat anything, just chewed and not a lot. Should i just keep an eye on him? Btw it doesnt seem like he actually chewed the stuff inside just the plastic around and nor it looks like he actually ate it, just chewed. I lost it in the ground after and it broke off, he didnt actually chew through.

FYI I took a second look at the cable, and it does definitely not look like he actually ate anything, just chewed parts. Not sure if it matters but just as you knowplease answer ASAP. Won’t be able to go to the vet before tomorrow if it is necessary, since it is like 5am, but yea! Please answer I’m on my way to a panic attack. I love this little guy and I need to know if yea....

Just keep an eye on him and take him to the vet if you are concerned with any changes in behaviour. Make sure you monitor his weight and poop output. Weigh him daily for a few days instead of the normal weekly weigh in. I'm sure your piggie will be fine.
Keep us posted.

Ok, so should I weight him everyday? What am I looking for?

Also, when would it in case be out of his system? Like when is there no more concern?

Guinea pigs have a very fast metabolism and what goes in one end should be out of the other 2 days later. I would weigh him daily for around a week at the same time of day. If he loses weight consistently during this time it means he is not eating he needs to see a vet. Don't panic about 20-30g weight loss between one day and the next as this is a full/empty bladder.

Ok, thanks:) just don’t want to find him dead or something.

Btw so in two days he won’t be in more danger from this or? Like yea.

I wouldn't say that incase there is a blockage somewhere which is why I have advised to weigh daily for a week and check for any changes in behaviour and check poop output too.

Ok, so a week or two? He is going to the vet in 11 days

Just keep an eye on him for a day or two, but don't panic. It is highly unlikely that there will be a problem. ;)

Yea, thanks!
Yea btw
Also my dad looked at the head phones (he is an electrician) since I noticed that one spot there wasn’t any wire just the rubber, but he said it probably wasn’t because he ate it, but because the wire inside goes back so it was probably just in one of the other ends, also he said that the wire in headphones are really soft so the chances were slim that his stomach would be hurt from it if the case was that he ate it, it had been worse if it was my iPhone charger for example, because the wire inside is a lot harder and more like cutting haha. not sure how to expain that. But I will keep an eye on him. Been a few hours now and he is acting as himself eating and everything:)

My piggy Jess got at my iphone charger the other day on my bed after a cuddle too, just a little bite which is why I could rescue it with electrical tape! Nothing eaten but they can be naughty at times!

I had a rabbit chew the outer bit of the cable (not the wires) and she was fine, but rabbits and guinea pigs are different

Yes naughty Jess just got the plastic/rubbery outside bit, thought it was down the side of the bed but was tucked under the duvet which is her favourite place to pee and poo when I’ve just changed the sheets!
Luigi is a terrible chewer so I’m going to be on guard even more from now on! Thought Pedro the chin was bad!

I wasn’t sitting with Bella (the culprit) on my chest and didn’t notice, thought the cable was hidden!

Same here! They like to keep us on guard when we’re supposed to be relaxing with our pets! :)
They certainly do, had a piggy called Smudge (who I got with Smokey, they were my first pigs) I had them both out for lap time, I turn around for three seconds and all of a sudden he’s halfway in my pillow cover!

Yep that’s Jess, have ‘lost’ her a couple of times but she’s just so little and tucked up in pillows/blankets that she’s hard to find!

Hey!
It’s been a week (or a little bit over)
He is acting all fine, poop normal, eating and drinking as normal. Weight is also stable:) I think it went ok, will keep and eye out for another week or two, but I think I can calm down a bit💛
