Hi, I've been looking at getting a chin sling for one of my guinea pigs as his jaw hangs slightlty and doesn't look entirely comfortable eating, although he does have a huge appetite! Does anyone have any photos of one or even know how to make a temporary one please? :))

Thanks

Sian

I think if there's a problem with his chin it could be something to do with his teeth. Best to get them checked out by a cavy savy vet. I wouldn't try making a sling it's more likely to stress him out having his mouth restricted. Hope he's ok.

Hi Sian,

I would avoid attempting a chin sling at the moment as it is only aimed at guineas with diagnosed and specific dental/jaw problems, particularly elongated roots, and it should be used with veterinary supervision.

You say he has a good appetite, is he able to eat everything you give him? Has he been examined by a good vet, especially the molars at the back of the mouth?

Some piggies do have droopy lower lips, it doesn't always point to dental overgrowth although I do understand where you're coming from.
