PingandChipy
Teenage Guinea Pig
I'm so pleased to announce that my piggy, Chipychanga, who is 6 years old, who had teeth surgery 2 weeks ago can eat normally again!
I'm so happy and relieved. His weight is now 2.3lbs. He was 2.0lbs after surgery and hovered from 2.1-2.3 with syringe feeding. I've stopped syringe feeding and his weight now has stayed at 2.3.
He can eat pellets, hay, and cut up veggies with ease. In time I will make his veggies into larger pieces and see how he does.
He is happy and alert and doing so well.
Just incase anyone doesn't know what happened. He had teeth surgery last April and it took him 3 weeks to eat again. It was a very horrible ordeal for him as the Vet had accidentally cut his gums. He was on morphine and I think generally scared to eat properly due to pain.
Being that he is an old guy I didn't want to do the surgery again if he needed it. I was going to see how long he could go and what his quality of life was and then when the time came have him put to sleep.
But when I had his teeth checked recently and his molars had trapped his tongue and his front teeth looked like tusks I just couldn't give up on him. He was too full of life.
So he had the operation and his teeth trimmed and I'm so glad I did this.
He is doing wonderfully now. Yay Chipy! x)
