I was curious, what does a guinea pig chirping like a bird mean? I’ve just watched a video and I’m wondering what it means.

Nobody really knows why guinea pigs chirp and I am convinced that nobody has the fully answer yet! There can be a sense of disquiet in my experience with my own resident chirper; it is more frequent in times of stress, but often there is no obvious reason whatsoever.

My guinea pigs have also reacted very differently to chirping videos - with some, I get a stampede for cover, with others there is not much of a reaction. I can also get variation of reactions by replaying a chirping video of my piggy.
This means that there must be some kind of situational context.

It has also been noticed by other people (and I have made that observation myself) that when you have a frequent chirper, other piggies in the same room will start to chirp as well. Normally you can go years (even with a group of piggies) without hearing any chirping.

Because it is so unpredictable, it is near impossible to research.

No one really knows, although it clearly means something to them, as other guinea pigs will generally perk up and pay attention! I had some pigs who chirped sporadically for no apparently reason, but have never heard it from my current pair of pigs at all.
