I heard my piggie Misty chirp for the first time yesterday, I have never heard a guinea make the sound before! She was being a grump yesterday, didn't want her laptime or treats (unusual!) and then after her cage had been cleaned out and she was back in, she suddenly started chirping! Her sister Storm was not too impressed and turned her back on her! After that she started scoffing all her treats and wanted to be fussed. Odd piggie! Why do they chirp?

Hi

I have just had one of my girls do the same thing. Completely in a foul mood all day yesterday, refusing to be caught, kicking out and just very jumpy(although happy to cuddle up for lap time!).....very unusual for her as she is usually a very happy laid back girl.

Then this morning the same thing, a bit grumpy but raced around the cage with excitement for breakfast (she always does this!)and then she sat there and chirped for about 5 mins, in a strange trance. The others completely froze apart from the leader of the herd who was completely disinterested!

I will keep an eye on her, she seems very well in herself and eating etc as normal but it was very strange. I suspect its probably something to do with her hormones :{ !

Would be ineterested to hear other people's experiences?

i have no idea why they chirp but butter was chirping on saturday so mayb it was the weekend to chirp. you should feel very lucky lots of people dont have chirping piggies.

I guess so! I had one other girl do it many years ago but only my mum was around to hear it. As long as there's nothing wrong with her....

Just had some emergency lap time and she is being very affectionate and chilled so must just be one of those things.

Its weird as the horse I ride was in a very odd mood this weekend as well, very jumpy and spooky. Not into science or anything but were'nt we going to experience large solar flares or something in the last few days....wonder if some are sensitive to this sort of thing? Very interesting....
