I honestly thought I had a bird in the house, as I heard chirping realised to late it was a piggy, or else I have recorded it. Any ideas on why they do it. Felt privledged to hear it as I've been told its rare
 
I caught my piggie bruce doing this when he had just had a fight with my other boar. They'd been living together for a good few months so i thought they were fine. Until i came back home after taking the kids to school to find them both with fur pulled out.

Bruce did it completely out of stress - but i have heard it can happen out of contentment too :)
 
I've heard my piggy Button chirp twice. Once I have no idea why he was doing it and the second time was exactly the same situation as piggie-power. He fell out with his brother and sat in his house looking out and chirping for ages. I watched him and he carried on. Really should have recorded that too! I was just amazed.
 
I'm not sure why which ever one did it but I know earlier I took Gus out for a cuddle and patch threw a tantrum... Running back and forth the front of the cage and weeking this pitiful wheek. Almost as if he was afraid Gus would never come back. So I fetched him out and then they had a nose off of who got to sit on me where... Lol. Patch is the most vocal.. So it may have been him... Perhaps his tantrum stressed him out. If patch was a girl I'd have named him siren. Very loud shrill wheek he's got. I can never ctch it on camera though!
 
Confirmed today it was my talker noisy boy path: as he didn't realize I was on the floor below the cage sorting newspapers.... And he was chirping himself a song. He seemed to not be irritated so Maybe for him it's a content sound. And darn it my phone was in another room so I couldn't record.
 
Ive never heard ditto chirp , although he is very vocal and very grumpy this morning! Hes sat on my lap as i type this teethchattering at me tut tut x

Yes I do find it annoying to never have the camera ready when something special happens !mallethead, but I did feel right chuffed as you all say to get to hear it. It's very bird like but it's more lower toned and less forced if you will.... Like a bird kinds of pushes out thier throat to force out the sound..... Patch made it sound more like a purr that is higher pitched . Hard to explain but it was kinda like chirpa chirpa churst churst. He seemed right pleased at the moment so I'm guessing chirping may be diff for the paticular piggy singing it. He is definatly my noisy boy! Love it though... He woke me up from in the living room the other morning over the fan noise ... It was like human hello I'm starving in here it's past ten * get up and feed me now! Don't make me have to yell at you slave. Cheeky boy! :)

Oh ditto don't be grumpy! Lol well my other three have never chirped.... So this was very shocking to me. I really thought it was a bird the first time .
 
Daisy does it too

Daisy chirps quite alot and I have a very faint recording of it on my iphone. I think Daisy does it when she is happy as she does it alot more since we got Piglet and I know she loves her lots. It is amazing to hear but Daisy normally does it in the middle of the night and it isn't as amazing when it wakes you up :-)
 
Lol daisy your not suppose to wake mommy up with that, silly girl!
Well I hope like you to get it recorded .... And like you I think it's a content sound for patch :)
 
I was just about to post a thread about this because I just heard one of my guinea pigs chirping! (it's 11pm here right now)

She had a good go at it for about 20 seconds and I enjoyed listening to it, it was amazing! Unfortunately, I didnt get to record it as my sister very annoyingly opened her door as she was trying to sleep and it made the guinea stop :(

I try to have my phone on my at all times when i'm downstairs with the girls, never know when that cute moment will come!

Will do glynis..... The little turkey hasn't done it again yet! But I hope to catch it soon! Right now he's playing a song chewing in his bars..... Tried everything to get him to stop..... But nibble nibble he goes
