I don't mean minty chocolate, I know full well chocolate should never be fed. I mean the "chocolate mint" variety of mint that supposedly smells like chocolate. I know they can eat regular mint, Doughnut absolutely loves it, but it's out of season now and the mint in my plant pot has all wilted. I have a pot of chocolate mint though, and it seems fine, so can I feed this to my piggies? I have tried to look this up, but it just comes up with "guinea pigs cannot eat chocolate".

I just love the look on Doughnut's face when he is eating a fresh mint leaf and it would be lovely to know if he can enjoy the "chocolate" variety too. Thanks! :D

I have given chocolate mint to my boys for the past year with no problems. They love it!

Mine is planted in a pot, you can get some from a gardening store such as Squire's. You should only ever plant chocolate mint (or any kind of mint, actually) in a container, if you plant it in your border it will pretty much run rampant and take over your whole garden! Mint's very hardy, very easy to grow. Best to use a relatively tall plant pot, its roots run pretty deep. It dies back during the winter but comes back in the summer. It should be okay all year round if planted indoors, though.

Remember that some piggies don't like mint. If they don't you can use it in cooking and make delicious, cheap tea. If your piggies do like it, remember it should only be fed up to twice a week because it is high in calcium. :)

Any type of mint can be fed. I have peppermint, lemon mint and Swiss mint; the fresh leaves also make a nice cup of tea.

Thanks Wiebke and Treacle. Doughnut is very pleased he is able to eat so many different kinds of his favourite treat. :yahoo:
