I picked up some off cuts of vet bed from the local Rspca and decided to give it a go in the indoor pigs cage. I took it out just now to shake off the poo & got covered in pee. Now I really wasnt expecting that >:(

i thought the wee was supposed to drain straight through it. :-\

but you are supposed to wash it before you first use it, maybe that was why?

That's the main reason I've stopped using it except on the loft area where luckily they don't pee, I got really really fed up of smelling of eau de guineapig every third day :D ;D

Aah the joys of vet bed esp if the winds blowing the wrong way.............
I once sprayed my friends glasses with piggy pee whilst shaking the vet bed, i thought it hilarious  ;D ;D

A word of advice Hils, remember to always keep your mouth closed when shaking it ;)

I am going to have to refine my technique!

good luck, I've tried bashing it against a wall at arms length, brushing with a stiff brush etc etc and still get a facefull ;D

I've now resorted to Russell Rabbit in the cage base and vet bed only on the upper levels, and it's so much more pleasant although I still have a dustbin bag full of dirty vetbed that I'm trying to forget's there as I really don't want to shake it all out

There were some fantastic noises coming from our side of the fence i can tell you ;D ;D
Balaclava on next time i do ANYTHING with the soddin vetbed ::)

I think if you have one of those little hand held vacumes to suck up all the little 'presents' & deal with the wet vet bed by putting it straight into the washing machine things will be a little less 'interesting'!

The poops aren't the problem, it's getting the bits of hay off that I struggled with, stuck like well y'know ;D

I've never seen vet bed, is it like a flannel towel or what? I use hand towels for Duke and the hay gets in bedded and causes me grief trying to remove it before washing :P

That stuff looks great! Is it re-usable? I would love to get some for the piggies :) Dont know if they sell it Australia though ?

It is, you shake the "bits" off or brush it & shove it in the washer & then dryer :)

If you put thick newspaper under it, that soaks the wee away from the vetbed, so you don't get pee face!

Cat litter scoops are great for catching the poos and big bits of hay and wire dog brushes are good to get rid of the smaller bits and hair before you wash it.

Also having cat litter trays full of newspaper and hay provide an alternative toilet area to reduce the pee.

hahaha this happened to me in the week too LOL - I'm glad it wasnt just be with au du' pig...I shook out their blanket and got sprayed over my face - gag - it was funny tho :)
