When I gave the piggies their breakfast this morning I noticed Christian's eye wasn't good. Got him an emergency appointment at the vets and after a thorough examination, (yellow drops, saline, local anaesthetic, a clean round with a cotton bud and yet more saline plus a look in the eye with an opthalmascope - think that's what it's called) it turns out he has done a proper job! 2 ulcers 1 of which is quite deep. I have some Isathal for him twice a day. I have to take him back Tuesday afternoon for a check up but if I don't think it's clearing up or it's getting worse then it's Monday morning. Poor little Christian it must be so sore!

Poor little potato! It’s so silly that their main food source can do so much damage! I hope the drops do the trick

Awe poor little monkey :( Sending healing vibes and cuddles :luv:xx

Poor little man. If it doesn’t look much better then ask for some chloramphenicol drops on Monday.
I just dread hay pokes. They can be so nasty and sore, please give Christian a hug from me and my girls.

Oh @Betsy I’m so sorry to hear this. Poor Christian, it must feel so sore. You’re such a good piggy slave I’ll send you cuddles & love & let us know how he gets on  x

Poor Christian! Good that you have had him seen promptly. All the best!

I feel for you - both Nosgan a year ago and then Hafren this autumn needed the full monty with chloramphenicol drops 3 times a day (they are stronger than isathal), visco tear gel (artificial tear gel from a pharmacy to keep the eye hydrated; apply at least 30 minutes after the antibiotic up to 6 times a day) plus two rounds of strong antibiotic (zithromax) each to save both their eyes. They also were on the largest dose of metacam, which is not just a painkiller but also an anti-inflammatory twice daily. :(
In both cases the infection had penetrated into the eye (internal ulceration) and has made permanent changes but they have both retained at least partial sight, which is a frankly better outcome than expected. It was a toss up whether they would be able to hang onto their eyes for weeks. It was the deep sitting ulcer that was the difficult one to get on top of. :(

I hope that you can get there, too!

Dam hay poke. Well done for getting him quick treatment.
Christian be a good piggie and take all your medical treatment.
Our girls :luv:you love

 Aww Christian! Poor little Man, Speedy recovery as fast as you can! :luv:

fingers crossed for a full recovery & a virtual hug for you too Jackie. The girls & I :hug:xx

Hope he recovers quickly.

Hettie has had several hay pokes over the years, I think it's her fur type that attracts pieces of hay.

Thanks Andrea! Christian's eye is open this morning and looks cloudy. Yesterday, he didn't want to open it, it was weepy and cloudy so a partial improvement. Bit worried about the cloudiness, hopefully that will improve with the Isathal. If not I shall ask the vet about it on Tuesday.

I'm sorry Christian sustained an eye injury, but really pleased his eye is better now.with your promptness to the vets, and devoted care.
