Hi all,

Chuck has been showing signs of needing his teeth doing again the last two days. He's been selective with his hay and food and moving his jaw side to side. His teeth sound noisey as well.

I went to hell and back the last time and want to know if a dental without a GA would be easier on him (and me)?

I am in Witney, Oxfordshire. Do you know any vets close by that do dentals without GA?

Thank you!

Hi Sophie, Sorry to hear that Chuck is needing another dental. Consicous Dental's can be perform successfully by vets experienced in this procedure.

I quickly did a search for you and found this thread from someone in Oxford who was looking for a vet who did dental without GA - http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=66459

When we had a dental piggie I literally phoned every vet around me and dropped lucky on the 21st phone call. I would suggest ringing everywhere local to you and asking the question, you never know.

Hoping some other posters may be able to give you a recomendation. Hope Chuck gets sorted soon x

Thanks! I was looking at going to Simon who everyone suggests but I don't know when I could get there. I work 7 days/mornings a week and boyfriend is on nights :/. I'm not very willing to drive Chuck there on my own.
I know i've got to get a plan together quickly, It's ony going to be a matter of time before he stops eating I just know it! :(

Ok so just begged with the BF and he will take us on Saturday to northhampton. If i can get an appointment. I will have to try and chage my work time which isn't going to go down well i'm sure. I hope this is soon enough for Chuck bear.

My goodness this is stressful! I don't want to have a piggie mummy melt down!

I had a piggy mummy meltdown yesterday and my husband was a bit lost, so sending you understanding and a few wheeks from my little ones that i'm also struggling with vets to get well. x>>

I'm sure Furryfriends mentioned Simon Maddox being away this week but he may be back by Saturday. If he's not don't panic his Wife Kim also works in the practice and does teeth.

Thanks flintstones, yes just phoned and no vets are there on Saturday! They have times for monday night and tuesday moring but BF can't take me in the week. I am a bit lost as to what to do!

Simon is away at a veterinary conference and won't be back in work until Monday. If you are unable to get time off to take him, and could get him to me at a time more convenient for you, I am more than happy to take him for you.

Bring him to me at the weekend if you can and I will take him to Simon next week. All the staff at the vets know me well as I take the dental sanctuary piggies to him, so if you explain that Debbie Postles will bring him in that will be fine.

Hi Debbie

That would be fantastic! I have an appointment for 5.20pm on Monday 27th. They should have his history from my vets at cogges. I am able to take him but not very confident at driving the distance etc.

Would you need his house? He lives with his brother Arnie. I would pay all boarding and bills. I don't know what day I would be able to pick him up but I think iwill just have to get used to the drive as i'm sure if wont be the last time he has to go.

Let me know some more details and we can work something out.

Thank you for your offer! You are very kind. :)

That works perfectly, as I am there Monday afternoon anyway with Archie.

I've got a cage they can use, but bring anything they like to have in the cage to make it more familiar for them.

I will message you my address and all other info in a little while. I will look forward to meeting you all.

UPDATE: I haven't updated you all on Chuck in ages! Here is what has been going on...

26th - Chuck and Arni dropped off with Debbie. Which they LOVED! :)
27th - Chuck had his teeth done by Simon.
28th - Collected the boys.

8th - Front teeth burred at local vets because the bottom ones had got long an were sitting over the front ones. Teeth were done too short. The vet said this would mean he wouldn't have to have then done again so soon! Also she said back teeth were ok(they were far from ok)I was less than impressed...

12th - Teeth checked by Simon. He needed to have some work done on them.

Today - He's been eating; grass, grated carrot, boccoli and just now some of Arni's melon. I didn't even think he liked melon! But I guess it's easy to eat. Also he's had little bits of shredded greens. He's on critical care syringe food as well.

When I left for work I thought his eyes looked a little watery when I was syringe feeding him but thought I will just have to check him again when I get back. So home time rolls around, about half 5pm and I come home to find him with puffy eye lids (both eyes)! So wizzed to the vets after more syringe food. Poor boy has conjunctivitis. So he has eye cream for twice a day and had an injection of anti inflamitory.

He's really been through it at the moment. I also mentioned to the vet(not the one that did his front teeth) that his back teeth DID need doing, hence the not eating. She was very interested in this and his teeth. It really is hit or miss with piggie savy vets it seems even in the same practice.

His eyes look better already and he really is doing well with eating he's put on around 40g just tonight and I was out all day aswell so must have been tucking in by himself in the day. :) Still keeping on with the CC. Going to add grass to it tomorrow.
