i have seen there is a few posts about this but i just wanted a wee bit of advice, what kind of clippers should i use?
i have used normal human nail clippers in the past and they were very fiddly and super paranoid about getting the kwik, i would take them down to the vets ('sick pigs', to my niece and nephew:))) but they are extortionate for things like that
i was in a 'piggy supplies' shop today (not sure if you can post shop names some forums you can't) and spotted proper small animal nail clippers which were like false nail clippers...........are they easier to use?

i have also been told that letting them walk about on the patio in there run would also naturally keep there nails down?

any help much appriciated :D x

ahh perfect. lady greys due a trim and she is a mega drama queen  so it will be ideal if they are quiet many thanks guys :D! x

while we are on the subject of clipping: is it a one person job, or two? i looked more closely at my boys' nails this morning and i think some of them are due a clip, but i am not that confident about it, having never done it, and worrying about the kwik ... i will check in with our vet to ask what they would charge for it. i can ask my husband to help, but not sure about that either. thanks!

I've never been able to do it by myself, I always need someone else to hold them and if need be distract them with food! I am rather paranoid about accidentally cutting the kwik though so feel safer doing it with someone else.

My OH always holds our piggies for me and I do the clipping. I have 3 who I could probably clip on my own and one who isn't at all good at nail clipping time. I couldn't clip he nails without his help.

Thanks Vicki: I think I might take them to the vet the first time, see how it is done so I can instruct the second pair of hands properly, and minimize upsetting the piggies. Am thinking my neighbour, although my husband is very good/patient at holding the dachshund for her nail clipping (and with her short legs and wriggling it is quite a challenge!).

I have just done mine with normal nail clippers. Just took my time and was very careful. Seemed to be fine. Was very nervous with it being the first time. Only had them 1 week but they were long.

I actually find that one of my two girls is easier if I have my partner bribing while I clip, but the more skittish piggy actually does better and is easier on me if he's nowhere to be seen!
