Hi,
I am wanting to make my 2x5 c&c cage into a two storey 2x5 like this one....(not my photo)

However, I'm concerned about cleaning it as it's closed. So, those of you with cages like this, how do you clean them/how often? (It would be for 2 entire boars).
Mucho gracias.

I should add that I don't intend to have a roof on top....but obviously the floor from the top will serve as a roof for the bottom!

So I assume the front panel of the bottom cage will drop down or open in some way? If that's the case you might be ok if your arms are long enough to reach the back?

I had a 5x2 with a 2x2 loft and it was a pain to clean under and in the end, the loft went as it was just too much hard work.

I don't know, hence why I'm asking (lol) would this be an efficient way to do it? It's only two grids wide so my arms are long enough to reach the back. Would it be a pain to put back together though if I did that, bearing in mind that I clean out daily?

I’m afraid I can’t answer your first question as I’ve no experience of a complete double decker like that. I did have a 5 x 2 with loft but it was difficult cleaning under the loft. So my OH made me a removable mezzanine to make it easier. Since then my girls have moved into a 7 x 2 although I’ve kept the mezzanine and will use it if we remodel again.
But as to cleaning out I do a full clean every 3- 4 days. I do hay trays and pee pads daily and spot clean twice per day.

I have a 4x3 c&c cage with a 2x1 loft. I have the grids at the front connected using cable ties so that they can be folded back like bi fold doors and then slide the correx out to clean so I don't need to reach under the loft to clean out the corners.

Tbh that looks difficult to clean to me! I have a big C&C cage with a lid which is fine, but the lidded areas are quite hard to clean (especially in the corners) as I have little arms. Having a cat means I can't change that unfortunately so have to live with it :))

I personally wouldn't go for anything with a second storey as they'd be too difficult for me (spot cleaning once/twice a day and full clean every 6 days depending) so I would favour a bigger cage but flat and open.

Unfortunately I can't go any bigger in terms of flat space as they are on the bottom storey of my bunk bed! :( But wanted them to have more space as, when I first got this cage for them, they were getting 2+hrs of playtime every night, and now they aren't getting any. Maybe doing two half-lofts would be easier? :/

Possibly? You could maybe find a way to make the top layer detachable for cleaning? Would you be going for a C&C style?

I'd still try and find at least an hour for floor time though, particularly for boys so they don't get on each other's nerves so much. I know it's hard to find the time sometimes, I work a lot and have 5 to catch which can be draining so I totally understand.

i have a stacking 6x2 cage from c and c cages uk.i use vet bed on the bottom cage with puppy pads underneath.i use a hand held vaccum to spot clean, and have a cat litter tray for the hay.you do need to sit on the floor to get into the cage ,but i find it is managable.top cage is a doddle to clean, under the loft area i use a long handled brush to clear any mess !i have 2x 2 hay loft on the top cage.i would highly recommend c and c cages .stacking cages, they supply all the support bars with the kit.
