My two boys have cage liners from Ziggy's piggys and I really like them (I think they do too, however it's the only substrate I've ever had them on!) however, I've hit a slight snag. I don't really have an outdoor area to shake out the liners and shaking out on the street the hay has nowhere to go! Being that I don't want to be an anti social neighbour, does anyone have any suggestions? Hoovering kind of works but is EXTREMELY time consuming as I can't hold the fleece down like a carpet etc. so any other solutions would be really helpful to an urban piggy owner...

I shake mine into the wheelie bin. Lol. I've seen skinny pigs one (YouTube) shake hers into the cage and then sweep it up.

Do you use a horsewear wash bag to wash them in as any stray hay will be in the bag and not the machine.

I have fleece and I use quite a firm brush to get the hay off. Just the little dust pan and brushes you get from B & M or something.

I do it in the hall where it's laminate flooring, shake all the hay into the one area then sweep up the hay. Not gonna lie it can be a bit time consuming but I manage to keep my fleece pretty hay free by sweeping it like that

I haven't been using a horse bag (!) but having read more threads, I have an old duvet I'm going to start using. I think shaking it straight in to the wheelie bin would be really effective, unfortunately we share our bins with the neighbours too so might be a bit anti social!

I think I'll try that, thanks :) I don't mind the time as long as it's more effective than what I've been doing! I'm just still quite new to looking after piggies so it's just a matter of finding the best way to do things for them and me!

Yeah it takes a bit of trial and error until you find a way that works for you. If it's just small bits of fleece then I'll shake it into a black bin bag. Also I second the idea of using some kind of wash bag to save the washing machine, I just use an old pillow case tied with a hair bobble :D

I just scrape all the hay and poo off their liners back in to the cage with the cat scoop and then sweep up like normal. Tends to be less hay to sweep up in of the floor afterwards that way.
