Hi all, due to yet another impending cage extension (have another rescue piggy and hopefully one more at weekend) and intention to put hay on all three floors I am wondering what people do if they use a hay tray ie do you completely tip it out every day and renew?
My ground floor is dust free shavings completely covered with hay plus fresh hay pile 2 x day. The top two floors are fleece and one has a temp hay box. Mine don't like hay racks and like to sit in /under the hay, but of course... The poops (eyes raised)!
Here's Daisy... New piggy....

Beautiful Daisy! :D
To keep things hygienic, I would change the hay in the tray completely each day, also I'm sure old hay will be left, because in my experience, once hay is a day old my two won't touch it! :P

Awww she is gorgeous. When we had Miss Moo living on fleece we used to keep her hay on a tray to try and keep it off the fleece and change it twice a day

mollie and benjie have a large garden potting tray with newspaper, fitch and hay in it. it's completely changed everyday :)

Mine have hay trays which I line with Aubiose.
Now that's interesting, as I was wondering whether to line the tray. ( I have tried Aubiose as bedding but returned to dust free shavings covered with hay and mine do well on it at the moment, so vet said continue if no problems) I was wondering whether to put a few shavings in the bottom to soak up any dribbles!

My foster lads adore their hay tray, but tend to treat it as an extra litter tray. Sigh! So I line it with newspaper and change it first thing in the morning( which is cleaning time anyway) and last thing at night if it looks particularly yucky.

Yes that's what mine have been doing with the temporary tray (a wooden house turned upside down)!

I called mine hay trays 'cos to refer to them as litter trays would imply they are litter trained - and they're certainly not ! I change the hay every 1-2 days and find the Aubiose is so absorbent that it only needs changing when I do a full cage clean.
