I'm just curious how and when you clean your piggies out. I do them on a Friday after work then i dont have them to clean at the weekend. I clean Dudley out more often and the mice though as there is smaller cages to the rest. I thought i was making the right decsion getting them all done on the Friday night but I'm not sure if its the best thing to do. I end up very tired and dread it a little even though i also look forward to there faces after.
So do you clean all yours out on the one night or do you do a few each day? This really goes for people with more piggies (i have 9 so not loads) and also people who work full time. How do you find works best for you?

I clean mine out after work also on Friday! :) their beds and hammocks get washed on the saturday morning as the profleece is getting the machine on the friday night

they are quite good and dont need a clean beyond that - they wee and poo in certain areas so if it does get bad, i can removce the tray and just clean that!

Ive only got 4, have had a lot more in the past like about 40 russian hamsters when I was at school (that required a cleaning rota alongside the homework rota!)

I do a total full clean every Sunday, another main clean on Weds eve before the bin collection Thu and top up cleans inbetween.

Having to do the top layer of paper/hay daily at the mo with the heat, otherwise Its every other day with any left over food am and pm daily.

3 hutches dont take too long - I use newspaper and hay for the guineas, same for Leo bunny but he does need a layer of litter stuff (from pet shop bit like megazorb)

At the mo I do all 3 hutches in one go but when I had a lot more with hamsters/gerbils/mice/guineas/rabbits then I had to split it up as was too much to do in one go.

Personally I'm too tired to do them all Fri eve, Sun am is good as I'm never usually out until the afternoon.

I have 9.

Pola & Nell I do a full change twice a week (Wed & Sat) because they tend to use the bathroom more and in different places. Want to keep Pola (my Sheltie) as dry as possible. Trying to get them to use a litter box...they use it AND the rest of the cage rolleyes .

Lila & Poppy I do once a week because they use a litter box and mostly use the bathroom there (they do have the occasional miss). Litter box changed daily.

Molly & 3 babies I do once a week because they use their cozy as a potty rolleyes and that is changed daily...had to stock up on the cozies.

Shotzie also uses a litter box so he gets changed weekly, with a daily litter box change.

Also spot clean daily, sometimes twice if I have the extra time.

ooo yes i forgot i hoover them morning and night on the profleece so its spotless, so that keeps on top of it too!

I clean them out on a Tuesday, Friday and Sunday and hoover the vetbed daily :) that suits me as I work Monday and Wednesday and volunteer at my local rescue on a Thursday. A full clean takes 2 hours or so and that is 4 c & c cages containing 10 piggies x

I clean them every 4-5 days, usually on Mondays, Wednesday or Fridays, depending on smell, as they live next to my seat on the sofa.

While I don't "work", I am required to look after the twins a lot, especially first thing in the morning - which is when I clean the pigs out. It doesn't work out for me to clean at night as I use the hoover and, by the time I'd get to them in an evening, the twins are asleep and I'm not allowed to hoover! I usually muck out quickly in early morning (7-8am) just before I take over with the twins, or late morning (10am) when my mum has sorted herself out and takes over the twins.

I do a full clean every three days, this means complete change of fleece and towels. Daily, I top up/clean the hay trays, clean dishes of pellets, fresh water and hoover the poops off the fleece. The cages total a 7x5 C&C, but is split into three sections:

6 pigs in a 3x5
2 pigs in a 2x5
2 pigs in a 2x5

A full clean takes about 40 minutes for all three cages. Daily tidy-ups take about 20 minutes.

I know the feeling of not really wanting to muck them out, but I focus on when it's all done, the fresh fleece is in and how bloomin' good and clean the cages will look! It is satisfying, having a load of freshly cleaned cages and happy piggies within.

i have 29 hutches, i start cleaning them on Thursday and finish Friday, i did once do them all in a day but my back hurt for about a week fter so now spread it. Then on Sunday it's tip day and i treak off to the tip with a car load!

i have 13 and I do them every Sunday after riding...

I have 8 males and 7 females...i do the females first. I clean out the two houses on the ground with a spade into a bucket and put them onto the muck heap. I then do the Eglu...this is reasonably easy take out the thingy and carry it to muck heap...

I then do the boys...this consists of 3 Eglu's that I do first. I then do the wooden run. Then I do the two cat boxes (Dont ask two of my males are actually sort of 'free range' cant really explain lol....)!

Then put in all the sawdust...then hay...then do water, food etc...

I then do the washing of the ringworm 3 (Noodle, Brook and Polo) and then well thats it...

I will then go in and have a shower (by this time I smell of horse, guinea pig and ring worm shampoo lol)

And then go out and give each one a nice cuddle and a once over to check they are all healthy!

I do my big clean in the shed at the weekend, but try to do the other cages (kitchen and by back door etc) during the week to lighten the load. I sometimes prefer doing them all at once and having everyone clean! Despite having so many I actually really enjoy the cleaning... I find it really satisfying to know they're all done!

I have 8 and I try not to do them all the same night and try to stick to the same nights but that never works

At the moment I do the girls cage on Mondays, the boys on a Wednesday and Leo on a Saturday

I do a poo and mini clean everyday so that the big clean is easier

I have 10 piggies, 7 live together in one C&C and the other 3 in another C&C. The one that houses 7 of them gets a full clean every 2 days at the moment but think its because I can smell them really badly right now (I'm heavily pregnant). The other gets a full clean twice a week.

i have 14 guinea pigs and 1 rabbit and 8 hutches/cages in total
i clean them as and when needed a lot more this time of year the rabbit
does all her poos and wees in one corner so i just clean the corner daily
and my 2 boars who are now living in seperate hutches due to fighting
every other day as they pooh loads

I have 43 cages + a pen ! Wish I hadn't counted now rolleyes

I used to do a full clean twice a week - Tuesday and Friday but it takes all morning - I get distracted and keep stopping to have a cuddle, trim nails, brush the longhaired piggies etc. I've tried doing 10 every morning on a rotation basis so every one gets cleaned every 4 days but that's no good now as the bunnies need cleaning every day and have to have their bottoms checked twice a day :{ And it also means I dont get a day off cleaning.

Not really sure of the best way to work it - at the moment buns are done every day and piggies every 3 days but it does feel a bit never ending :)

my piggies are cleaned out every other day, they seem to be messy little devils the two rabbits have their litter trays cleaned every day and a full clean once a week..:)p:)p

Oh I forgot to mention, I clean out the hutches in the guinea shed at Bobtails on a Thursday-between 20-25 hutches!

there are alot of mixed opinions on sawdust but the majority of people will recommend that you don't use it,it causes respiratry infections just like it does with other little furries x

well ive been using it for 10 years and well they are all fine!

mine are kept out doors and i think that is very different to those that are kept indoors...more airing etc

but 10 years down the line and God knows how many piggies we have had we have NEVER had a problem...so it cant be that bad...

When I had my piggies, it was 2 large Nero cages, and I'd do the full clean on alternate days, come rain, shine, or whatever. I did produce vast quantities of rubbish, though the council did take away hay and that kind of thing.

i was only advising what most people would, besides what you do with your piggies is your business i just wouldnt want to see one get ill from something as trivial as sawdust xxxxx

lol dont worry! i had a vet say that to me once, but she is officially the worlds WORST VET...so i dont really trust her. She told me my guinea had to have an operation, i was being cruel in not letting him have one and then got *****y with me about having two piggies with me in one slot (it was an emergancy case with those two)...

conclusion i saw Martin the next day, he was shocked that she had told me Polo had to have an operation and said that he wasn't in pain and wasn't uncomfortable, so was it worth the risk? no.

needless to say, i am NEVER seeing her again...i would rather use another surgery then have to see her

ok no point in trying to get my point seen, just ask some of the most experienced members on here and I'm sure they will back up what i have said,I'm sorry if i upset you, besides i don't want to ruin someones thread with this talk x

i do see your point, i wasnt saying i didnt!

but the thing is i keep them outside...its a lot different and well i think the sawdust thing may just be one of those things that yes the odd indoor kept piggie might get respitary problems but the majority dont...its hard to saw, everyone keeps there pigs differently there is no right or wrong way, you just do what works...i for example dont like the idea of keeping them indoors, i could never do that to mine, but then again, mine get stressy if they are shut in a run, they like freedom, and believe me they have rather too much of it lol....

well i guess thats just a different point of view many people have indoor piggies on here and i can say now i haven't met any piggy that is happier because it is outdoors or indoors they are all happy,,I'm just saying if there is a slight chance a piggy may get sick you would take every precaution so it doenst happen,I'm not posting in this anymore its not worth my time

I seem to be obsessive..........i do the BIG clean out on saturday's lately and i do the full out with everything......all tossed or recycled

But every morning i do a clean of the main poops and wee's areas which seems to be in a 5 x 6 area three main areas.........today being wednesday i decided to do most of the whole cage except of two areas that looked ok. I prefer to be rid of the wet newspaper and wet hay before it stays for too long.....:p
I clean out their water bowl at least twice a day, re do their pellet/mix bowl twice a day and i refluff up their hay or add hay 2-3 times a day, i'd hate for them to be cold :{

I have 4 pigs and 3 hutches to clean, they get a sweep out every other day, i replace any paper that is damp and one big clean a week that tends to be on a wed or thurs, on top of them i have my horse to muck out twice a day (on box rest) my hamster who has a big clean once a week then and i empty his wee try when needed. Then my cat needs her litter tray doing most days and then theres is my GSD that needs lots of exercise every day, so it's busy busy busy in my house.
