Toby & Barney have great fun in jumping on to the bottom stair. This doesn't bother me as they can get up and down quite safely. However, last night they decided to take things a little bit further and go up to the second stair. This wasn't so much of an issue until I watched their method of descent. Apparently, they can't come back down one stair at a time. Barney jumped straight down on to the floor and Toby briefly bounced off the bottom stair before landing on the ground. I cant imagine that this is good for their little legs.

They are now banned from the second stair - they looked most put out when they realised they couldn't get up there this morning because of the blanket now placed on the second stair. I wonder how long it is before MrS and I fall over it!

One of my first guinea pigs, Minx, discovered stair climbing as a hobby ten days before giving birth to two unplanned shop babies! She'd suddenly gone missing during roaming time in the hall and I only found her by making a food call - suddenly there was a faint wheek coming from upstairs! :mal:
Try to tell your gas man with a straight face that the cardboard barrier on the stairs is for piggy proofing! :lol!:

I knew the day when Minx decided that her pups were weaned - up the stairs she went again, but only ever when nobody was around. Once she'd finished exploring upstairs, she'd wait at the top of the stairs to be carried down again. I used to let her climb twice a week during roaming time and wait in the living room for a distinctive tap tap tap, so I knew when roughly to collect her.

lol! That is really cute.

Funny thing is - my hubby is a gas man. His first comment was - 'oh no, do we have to get a child gate? I don't know how those work - whenever I'm in a house with one I have to get the people to open it because I cant do it'!

My worry with the boys is that they will just sling themselves back down the stairs. Barney has absolutely no fear of heights. Alternatively that they will find somewhere really awkward to hide when they get to the top.

We have never had a stair climber, not beyond a few steps anyway but when they are upstairs (infrequently) they seem to have no concept or fear of eights and like to stick their heads through the bannisters....

I nearly had a heart attack thinking they were going to fall so no more upstairs landing floor time for us!

I think I've read somewhere that they're not very good at judging heights - poor depth perception, or something.

We haven't had any stair climbers (yet), but one of them does try to jump off the sofa so she can get on the exciting floor, and she certainly doesn't seem frightened at the prospect (I don't let her do this of course!)

Patch jumped up onto the bottom stairs - the others sort of climb and change their minds :P

Barney is always trying to do that. He doesn't really like cuddles so at cuddle time I just grapple with him while he tries to jump. It is very tiring! It is my turn for Toby tonight so we will snuggle while MrS grapples!

Share and share alike!

Funnily enough, the one who tries to jump off our sofa is Ivy, who is also the great cuddle monster. She does love her snuggles, but she also loves adventure and exploration! And a leap off the sofa is apparently the quickest route to adventure!

Glad you will be enjoying cuddles with Toby tonight while MrS gets to cope with the exhausting Barney!
