i’ve had my guinea pig for exactly a week today, she still doesn’t leave her hide house, she does at night though when everyone is trying to sleep though lol
i was sat next to her cage and talking to her, then i’ve heard that it’s good to to talk to them and sing when they are new, even though i’m bad at singing i did so anyways and she closed her eyes. does that mean that she’s sleeping? i haven’t seen her close her eyes yet...? does that mean she’s comfortable around me? thank you

It does look as though she is taking a nap. Guinea pigs are able to sleep with both their eyes open and closed. When they close them it’s a sign they feel comfortable

Hi!

She looks like she is napping.
Guinea pigs are prey animals; they sleep with their eyes closed only if they are either totally exhausted or feel totally safe. Mostly they sleep with their eyes open but a faraway look in them.

Single piggies will unfortunately feel even more exposed without having either a same age companion to snuggle up with or a 'teacher' piggy they learn from (and are protected by) during the formative 'school' weeks between weaning and teenage.

She looks very relaxed so maybe your singing is better than you think!

Another thing that can help a new piggy feel safer is to cover a part of their cage with a sheet or blanket - you can just clip it to the grids, so it is easy to remove for feeing and cleaning etc.
But a more cave like cage makes them feel bolder about coming out to explore.

One of my girls just started doing this recently too. She used to sleep in one of the houses on the fleece section of her cage. I switched bedding and now she sleeps in her litter box and closes her eyes. The area is covered. She looks very comfortable.
