As you all probably know by now, my rescued guinea pig numbers have dropped considerably as I have been concentrating on setting up and running the hedgehog rescue. I have only taken in 2 rescues this year which are currently kindly being fostered by a member on here.

Well I have made a decision not to continue with guinea pigs. I will be re-homing almost all of the guinea pigs I have here and just keeping a small group as pets for the family and Alicia my daughter.

As spring is nearly here and it will be hedgehog release time in as little as three weeks I also have to prepare myself for the hoglets that will be coming in and the 2 hour feeds they will require.

I have chosen the hedgehogs over the guinea pigs as there are so very few hedgehog rescue centres and as the situation is at the moment they are likely to be extinct in 2025 I feel I need to be where I am needed most.

I have a great team backing me with the hedgehogs including vets, pet shops, and garden centres. However, I still have to fundraise two full weekends a month to keep the centre going and this takes up a lot of my time.

I have gained so much equipment and knowledge in the time I have been rescuing I would like to pass this on to someone. I have double hutches, bowls, bottles, runs, gg products, books, and of course the tricks of the trade.

I need to re-home quite a few of my little ones before all of these items will be available but if there is anybody out there who would like these items please let me know as all it will cost you is the transport from A to B.
 
I would love to carry on the re-homing for you, but unfortunately i only live in a one bed flat :( best of luck claire xxxxxxxxxxx
 
Hi Claire,

Good luck with it! I'm in Liverpool as you know but would be interested in the runs but it would probably work out too expensive with the courier. An be cheaper to buy this end. But not sure as never done it.

Anyway rambling...haha keep us posted on how things go!

We've met throught various sites so I knew you were going to concentrate on the hoggies - bless you.
I'm still on the scrounge for stuff so I can expand so I'd be happy to relieve you of anything you don't want/need anymore.
I'm in Woodbridge and we have an estate car (back seats premanently down for all the blessed pooches!) and also an escort van so could probably take a fair bit of stuff if you're happy. We could collect to suit you when you're ready.

On a slightly different note - god it's so very sad about the hedgehogs - I didn't realise things were so drastic - all the best of luck.

Anyway, let me know what you think.

I would like a few bits and bobs claire and can probably take and odd pig or two aswell, when are you hoping to have it all done by?
 
Oh clair i am so sorry to hear that, but pleased to hear about the hedgehogs.

I would love to help but moving into a studio flat, so definitely no room for the piggies i am afraid.

No wasn't hedgehog related, all piggie stuff - it's only been on a couple of other sites - was a freecycle and ?east anglia pet rescue? or something like that.
I didn't keep copies and am now having a grey/blonde seniorish moment! mallethead

Hi Claire,

Must've been a difficult decision for you but as you say, there are so very few hedgehog rescues around, and the situation with their possible decline is dire, so you know I wish you all the best with your hoggie venture.

Not that I can help at all, unfortunately, but do you already have homes lined up for the piggies, or are you wanting to find homes for them as well as donating all your "gear"?

Good luck Claire with the hedgehog rescue side of things.
Please do keep popping into this forum from time to time as I would miss you!

As you know, I am a hedgehog fan myself and feed all my regular hoggies each night with appropriate nuggets that I buy.

Now every evening I am on the lookout for my hoggies that have successfully come out of hibernation. I recently bought a hedgehog house which I hope will help them with breeding and hibernating.

Let's hope that there will be more hedgehogs out and about this summer, as compared to last year. I missed them lots!
 
I think it's fantastic that you're concentrating on the hedgeghogs, i know rescues are few & far between, we travelled quite a few miles to take a very poorly one we found in our garden last year; the lady was over-run.
How very sad that they could be extinct in such a short time :(
 
So sorry to hear you are closing down.
I'm sure all the piggies you have helped and rehomed to lovely homes will always remember you and be very grateful.
As for hedgehogs i wish you all the best with it, i love hedgehogs and have rescued 3 befor but 1 died and the other 2 were released back in the wild.

So sorry that it's come to this but can fully understand where you're coming from. I will always be grateful for the wonderful piggies that I've had from you and am just sorry that there won't be the opportunity to have more in the future. 8...
