Cloudy Eye

Hi guys! <3

One thing led to another today, and I somehow ended up with another guinea pig...(I have 6 Guinea pigs now that are separated into trios).

I noticed something was up with Coco's eye when I picked him up at the store, but I didn't think anything of it because I thought maybe it's the light or something...

But upon closer inspection, now that I have him home, his eye is very cloudy and red in the white of the eye.

What's the best course of action to take? I did read on Guinea Lynx that it could be a bit of hay that's went into his eye, but is it best to be left or should I take him to the vet asap?

He should see a vet who will most likely give antibiotic eyedrops. Left untreated the wound could ulcerate.

Have you checked his eye to see if there is a foreign body present?

Thank you for your advice. <3 I'll make sure to book and appointment for tomorrow.

Yeah I had a look at his eye, and I could see anything there. It's just half the eye that's cloudy (at the top) and around the dark part of the eye, there's a red ring around it...

I'll have to have another look again to see if I can see anything. Hope he won't lose his eye...

I did notice he has a slight nick/bump below that eye...I'll try and take a photo.

You can sorta see the cloudy-ness at the top, and a little sort of bump below the eye.

Hi, looks like a hay poke to me, my piggie had this but hers was more white.

I used optrex infected eyes as recommended on here, and put the one drop in every so often for a few days cleared up in a week

The little bump could be a wart/skin tag. I personally wouldn't be concerned about it.

Yes Optrex Infected Eye drops have the active ingredient Chloramphenicol that some of the eye drops vets prescribe.

However, whilst from a photo it may look like a haypoke & it may well be one there is only a vet who can give a definitive diagnosis & this is why i did not mention Optrex drops.

I second what Niki said. There's no point recommending eye drops when 1) You haven't seen the pig and 2) There may still be something in the eye that a vet can see with more specialist equipment.

Definitely a vet visit in order.
