Cloudy Left Eye And Torn Upper Lip

When I came home yesterday, I noticed that my guinea pig had, what seemed to me, a severe upper lip injury. I'm guessing there was a fight between her and one of the other two pigs.. I then noticed a little later that her left eye appears to be cloudy, and it was not like that before. It also appears to be causing her some pain. When I took a picture, she squealed in pain from the flash. The other eye doesn't bother her that way. I was just wondering if anyone here thought that a vet could do anything to help with her lip and/or her eye. I will post pictures.

You need to take her to vets re the eye. The vet will need to put some dye in to check that its not been pierced it could be from hay poke. you may need antibiotic eye drops for which you need a vet appt as they dont sell them without precription.

The lip will prob heal on its own but no harm whilst at vets letting him give it the once over.

for the lip in meantime boil the kettle and add some salt to water let it cool and then bathe the lip this should clean Any dirt out and prevent infection. The vet may also be able to suggest something to put onit to help it heal

Is she eating ok with her teeth and mouth problems? If not pleaee ask vet about some critical care / recovery food. You could try mushing some pellets with water and putting in a bowl for her or feeding her with teaspoon.

Her teeth are actually quite normal. She has had that tiny chip for a while. She eats normally. I'm guessing that she got it while chewing on the metal bars of the cage or possibly the ceramic food bowls? The main concerns are the lip and eye. :( thank you for your feedback. How should I apply the salt water solution? With a q-tip after it has cooled? I will make sure to set up an appointment with our vet on Monday. (The vets here are only open on weekdays)

Here's a better picture of her teeth. If you think there's a problem, I might as well get those checked out too.
 
A q-tip or cotton ball would be fine. I would try to look around for a more flexible vet so you don't have to wait till Monday, i would hate to see infection set in. Do either of your other pigs have injuries?

I looked at the other pigs right away to see if they did, but couldn't find anything. Unfortunately, I live in a small area where there is only one vet that is qualified to work with exotic pets. I'll make sure to clean it regularly.
 
Teeth maybe fine but if they are wonky they sometimes cause the back teeth to grow crooked which can then effect eating. No harm in letting vet see whilst you are there!

Any idea what the vet would do if the eye was punctured? Also, is there any chance that the eye drops could make it go back to normal?
 
Not sure you'd have to ask vet. My experience was luckily just a scratch which healed with antibiotic drops. few people on here have had eye issues hopefully one will come alomg shortly

Hopefully it's just a scratch.. Also, I cleaned the lip with the salt water solution yesterday, but no dirt seemed to come off since it was already scabbed over. Do you think it'll still do the trick to clean it out?
 
I've had 2 pigs with cloudy eyes, unsure if from hay poke or fighting, the vet gave them fucithalmic 10mg eye drops once day for 7 days, viscotears 3 times a day and loxicom .15ml (pain killer) this worked
 
Thank you so much everyone for your input. It's never fun to see your little ones in pain. :( it helps to get advice from others.
 
It just occurred to me that I already have a prescription for ciprofloxacin ophthalmic solution for the same guinea pig from our last vet appointment. She had been having some ear troubles and my vet suggested that I put a few drops in her ear daily (even though it is meant for eyes) to try to clear up the issues. I just put a drop in the cloudy eye and she seems relieved, like it already hurts less. This doesn't mean I won't schedule a vet appointment, don't worry. I just don't have to worry so much in the time being.
 
Hi, I wouldn't hesitiate with any eye injury, I have had my share of eye injuries with guinea pigs in the last six months, not wanting to scare you but the first one ended up having to be removed, I have Marigold at the moment that has had an abscess form in her eyeball and is receiving treatment at this moment, it is looking slightly better over the last couple of days, but this doesn't mean that she is in the clear, seeing the vet for re assessing on Friday, to say whether she too has to go under the knife.
So what could cost a few pounds to get fixed sooner rather than later could end up costing an eye and lots of money too.
Hope your piggie is better soon.

Sorry for the late reply. She is much better, thank you! I have been closely monitoring her lip and eye since the incident. I've been putting some antibiotic drops in her eye once a day for the last week or so, and the eye is 100% back to normal. It doesn't seem to be causing her any pain anymore. Her lip is also much better. The scab has fallen off and it just looks like a tiny scratch now.

As you can see, it is a lot better than before. It's not as inflamed, and it doesn't look nearly as painful.

And here you can see that her eye isn't cloudy when the flash shines into it.
She's back to her usual, spunky little self. It makes me so happy to see that she's not in pain anymore. Thank you so much, everyone, for your help.:luv:
