Our guinea, Pinkie, is quite an old lady now and we have noticed she is not drinking from her water bottle. Her pee is cloudy white. She seems happy and is enjoying her fresh veg, nuggets and hay. Any ideas to help her drink more? Thanks for your help 🙂

Maybe provide her with a water bowl to drink from? It might be easier for her since she is older. It would be best if it was a ceramic or glass one so she cant knock it over. If you would like, to get more hydration into her whenever you feed her veg you can soak the veg in cold water so she gets hydration from that also. Tagging @VickiA @Lady Kelly @Wiebke and @FurryFriends about the cloudy pee problem. As i have no advice for that. Although @Minnieandpebbs may be right as guinea pigs can only excrete calcium and extra vitamin c through their pee, just tagging those people incase.

Thank you. Yep, vet said that it's a build up, sign that she needs to drink more. Have tried water bowl, putting apple in her water bottle etc but she doesn't seem to drink at all. We're running her veg under water so at least she gets hydration from that.

Maybe you would have more luck permanently switching to a water bowl? You would be best using a glass or ceramic one as she wouldnt be able to tip it over. I have heard lots of stories of people switching to water bowls with their piggies and they drink alot more (in a healthy way). She will shortly learn how to use it I'm sure. Just leave it in the cage and she will get the hang of it, thats what i did with my piggies and they always use it now. Also its great that you are running her veg under water, thats great and keep doing that.

When I get my guinea pig out I always offer him the water bottle as he is old and I worry about him reaching it, he also wont drink from a bowl. He normally drinks from the bottle if offered and I do that a few times a day.
