I haven't been around much on the forum lately but hopefully shall be here a bit more for the moment! Bingo, my oldest piggy (around 6 & 1/2 now) seems to have an injury to her left eye which has caused cloudiness, slight redness and some discharge. At the moment it's quite hard to see whether it's a scratch or poke, but this is what it seems most likely to be. She'd been fine up until last night when I went in to feed them but as I gave them their nightly check up, I noticed her eye was cloudy.

As it was too late last night, I've booked an appointment at the vets this morning in hope of sorting her out, but I'm not sure quite what to expect? I'm hoping it's nothing too serious but it's hard to see whether it is a poke or scratch and as she is an older big I'm very worried about what this could mean in terms of treatment. If anyone has any knowledge on this I'd be really appreciative of it! I'm also bothered about her weight as she seems to have lost quite a lot of weight recently and so I've also booked the appointment in hope of seeing why that is - although I'm aware it may just be due to old age unfortunately :'(

Thanks

Thank you for asking - fortunately the vet reckons it's nothing too serious and has prescribed some eye drops for her. There was a scratch in the corner of her eye, but with the drops we've been given this should heal okay and hopefully there shall be a noticeable difference within around 5-7 days. She also had a full check over and the vet thinks that she is in good shape, despite her looking skinnier, she's not underweight and is her normal self, so I'm reassured and relieved about that.

It was also nice to hear the vet comment on how calm she was (despite having to be poked and prodded by the vet!), out of all my piggies she is the most placid and enjoys her tickles behind the ears in the morning!

I'm pleased Bingo's eye injury isn't serious.

If it helps, my Eliza is 6. Her weight has stabilised at 900g (she was 1200g at one point) but my vet has said that she is still chunky and healthy and that's after she has recently had an eye removed! x

I've also been following your thread just recently since being back on the forum and I'm glad to hear that Eliza is on the mend after her surgery and vet visits.
Bingo is around 930g and although she has lost weight gradually, the vet seems pleased with her weight and that she doesn't have any other problems (other than her eye at the moment) and so as long as I can see that she is happy in herself and she's okay then I'm happy!

Thats great news. A gradual weight loss is normal in older piggies.

thank you for following Eliza's thread and I hope Bingo feels better soon x
