My piggies came down with diarrhoea this week. Poor little YamYam didn’t make it and I’m heartbroken. They think she may have been a carrier and introduced it to the others as I’ve only had her 6 weeks.

The vets tested Flynn as the latest poorly piggy and have confirmed a coccidia diagnosis.

I’m waiting to hear back on whether I can get the medicine from my local vets or the specialist in Birmingham.

I’m disinfecting everything and washing everything. Is there anything else I need to do? Should I bathe them all too?

I feel terrible. Could I have introduced it to them somehow? Or could they carry it for years and not show symptoms?

I am so sorry to hear your very sad news. I hope your piggy's get well soon.
RIP over the Rainbow Bridge Yam Yam.

I’m so sorry. What a shocker for you. At least now you have the diagnosis you can fight this and help the rest through. Popcorn free little YamYam x

Coccidis tends to occur in piggies coming from overcrowded or poor conditions. Where did YamYam come from? It might be worth informing them as other pigs in their care could also be carriers and at risk.
Very sad and stressful for you

Thank you everyone. It really is a big shock. I wish I’d known sooner, I could have maybe saved little YamYam if I did. She had been such a happy piggy. I’m hoping my remaining piggies get the all clear post treatment so it’s going to be a nervous couple of weeks.

She came from the RSPCA and the guy who had something like 150+ piggies from accidental pregnancies... I’m going to email them tomorrow to let them know in case others have been out at risk too. I know some were treated by the RSPCA for something, but I can’t remember what but YamYam wasn’t one of them as she was given the all clear.
