Hi there

I have an appointment to see Vet first thing tomorrow morning

today my piggy was very passive, not eating her hay and later on I noticed hair just coming off from her 😞 she also had slight discharge on her nose (only tiny amount)

I'm preparing emergency feed in case .. as I’m not sure whether she was eating when we were at work

Very worried about her !

The hair shed looks pretty normal, but the lethargy and the nasal discharge are indications to be seen urgently for a respiratory infection- these can be very serious, even deadly, in guinea pigs. It's good that the vet is booked for tomorrow, but if you can get them to move up the appointment for an emergency, I would try to have that done. The sooner meds are started, the better the chances of recovery. Good luck and hope Coco Bean does well!

Thank you all, I took coco to vets this morning, and vet suspected it is a respiratory infection, and injected her with Baytril and administered metacam.

been told to orally feed her baytril and metacam daily and I am syringe feeding her hourly.. she still very unwell but managed to eat a slice of cucumber and a little grass and a leaf of spinach by herself ...

Well done for taking her to the vets so quickly. The medicines should start to work soon. It’s a good sign she’s still eating for herself. 🙏 for a speedy recovery 😃

I'm glad she got some meds! Hoping for a speedy recovery for her!

Update

Thank you for all your kind words and help, sorry been quiet but been feeding my coco

I have more success now (best way I tried was lay her comfortably on a soft but firm cushion, gently stroke her head and exposing her side jaw quietly .. and then quickly put the syringe side of jaw and inject a small amount of feed. She then chews a bit and carries on)

She is very lethargic still, and yesterday had very tiny amount of fresh grass, hay and nibble of cucumber.. I think she was really pissed off of me trying to feed her 20 different ways off YouTube 😂.. seriously though we were very worried and read up on forums that Baytril stunts the appetite .. and really worried since yesterday she barely took 25ml of Critical care ...in desperation, I made a little poo soup from her healthy partner and fed some to her ...

This morning, she still very tired and not eating voluntarily(but taken 5ml worth of syringe CC 😊) and to my surprise she pooped so much ! So maybe the poo soup helped?

she does sometime hunch up now and make a noise I can only describe like a velosraptor... worried it might be pain but looks like she is producing hard stools

I have contacted vets again with video of her to see if a emergency visit is needed
