Hi all,

Coco, whom is about 7 weeks old, is my new, rescued piggy that I got just over a week ago, and other than a couple of things, he's doing great.

So firstly he had a bit of diarrhoea, which the vet gave him some antibiotics and he's all cleared up. But now I've noticed a couple of things.
The first one, which is that he's squinting one eye, and I only noticed this today (I check all my pigs daily, so it is fresh). My guess, and my hope is that he accidentally got poked by hay, I have wiped it to make sure there's no really small pieces of debris in there. Secondly, I did find a small lump/scab on the surface of his skin (I can feel it slightly underneath, but I'm not sure whether or not that's just because it's scabbing. I've applied some coconut oil on there, just to help with the healing.

I'm not sure what has caused these two things, as he had fresh mite treatment applied to him when I got him. Would it be worth using my last spare spot on treatment just to make sure it isn't that. Is it also worth trimming a bit of his fur on the area, to see if there's something that I didn't see before, he has white, thick fur so it is quite difficult to see anything other than scamming.

He's currently on Baytril, and today is his final day, and I'm just worrying about what it could possibly be (If neither of them clear up then I'll have to take him to the vets again, I just wanted some ideas and information on what to look out for. He's still eating, drinking and urinating fine, and his poops are back to normal too, so I'm not extremely worried.

It sounds like a hay poke. He does need to see a vet so they can check the eye for damage using a special dye. They will also be able to check his skin and give the appropriate treatment.

He definitely needs to see a vet for his eye.
When one of mine had a hay poke, the vet wanted to make sure that it was a poke rather than a piece of hay/grass seed having got right inside the eyelids. He had dye and anaesthetic applied, the vet then had to have a proper look behind the eyelids with the help of a nurse. There was nothing caught in the eyelids fortunately, but there was a very large scratch across the surface which had caused an ulcer so a weeks worth of antibiotic drops was needed. I took him to the vet the day I noticed his squinting/watery eye but already the ulcer had formed that quickly that it would have got worse had i left it even one more day.

I took Dennis to see a different vet this morning as he had a bad eye which I noticed last night and my usual vets wouldn't see him today. Dennis has a very nasty case of conjunctivitis and his eye is all cloudy and sore looking. I didn't want to wait until tomorrow. Dennis was given antibiotic eye ointment which I put in twice a day and he is going back on Thursday morning. You can't leave eye problems as they deteriorate very quickly.

I have had a closer look at his eye, and there seems to be a hair across it, it moves along with the eyelid, but does not come off from washing it. Is there any tips of what I could do to sort of rinse the eye, and if that doesn't work, to rush him off to the vets.

Please take your piggy to a vet. They will be able to remove anything that may be in the eye and also check for any damage. Eyes can deteriorate quickly and I'm sure you wouldn't want your piggy's sight to suffer.

I wouldn’t try to do any rinsing yourself - best left to a vet!

I've booked him in for tomorrow morning, and I can get that lump/scab checked out too, hopefully both are nothing major and they're simple fixes, thanks all for the replies :)
