Hello all,

So sorry I haven’t been as active on the forum, but been in and out of vets and trying to keep a not well Guniea pig going is time consuming along with work etc (as you all know!)

I have seen a vet that is more Guniea pig savvy having had her own etc, she wants to sedate and trim teeth down a bit even though they arnt overly long and at the same time give her an xray, they have checked everything else and she is showing similar symptoms to a few months ago when she had her teeth done then. I’m going to just go ahead with it and whatever happens I have done my best. It’s expensive not knowing if it will work, but she deserves it and I always told myself whatever pets I have they deserve treatment and that’s what comes with having pets in general.

Anyway, I have noticed she looks at food and runs off, when she does eat something she does this gag reflux thing like something is caught in her throat or mouth. The way she eats soft grass and eats half a leaf of stuff does to me sound like dental issues even though another vet has said it’s not? I was wondering what this gag thing is she does? She did this when she had a mouth ulcer before they trimmed her teeth 4-5 months ago. This new vet said unfortunately dental issues can be persistent every 6 months if not done properly or just the way their teeth are angled or grow.

I was just wondering anyone’s thoughts. She is 5 and a half so a little worried about the procedure but I guess if she sadly doesn’t make it through I know I tried everything and the way she is at the moment is no good anyway, so for her to go knowing I tried helping is better than leaving her like this and constantly trying to syringe feed which I’m having a nightmare with.

I appreciate all your time and help and look forward to hearing from you

Thanks

Just flagging @Wiebke since this is more a question than just an update . I'm sorry I don't know the answer.

Sorry @Wiebke, you mentioned not to flag but you're still on the forum so...

HUGS

I am very sorry. Something is definitely not right in the mouth and she seems to have issues with swallowing. However, dental issues are not my area of expertise; other members can help you better.

PS: I am off the forum now for a week since I need to put my piggies to bed and need to take my timed evening lot of tablets.

I have tried sooooo many recovery foods and she hates them all. I’m going to try the excel dualcare and also her own nuggets mashed up as a last resort

Look after yourself @Wiebke and hope all is well
