Oh there have been so many poorly piggys recently and my gorgeous little Coco has sadly passed away this evening after not being well yesterday evening. This is my favourite picture of him
I only had Coco for 5 months but in that time we developed a strong human animal bond and I just wanted to share his story with you all. I rescued Coco and Twiglet on Nov 4th 2012 from Sarah at the amazing Hazelcroft Rescue. Sarah had many piggies seeking their forever home's and at the time I remember thinking that I wanted 2 female piggys as all of pets have always been girls however that was to change. After speaking to Sarah about the piggies she had looking to be rehomed, I knew these two little boy pigs would be the ones I would like to have, they had already had a loving owner but sad circumstances meant they needed a new Mummy pig. So here I was faced with these two huge boy piggys and thinking to myself wow they are SOOOOOO BIG!
It didn't take long to fall completely in love with them both and Coco wa the most gentle piggy and I think my bonding with him developed first. Initially my little pigstars were outside and then I brought their hutch into the kitchen, much to my husbands annoyance! I then started coming on this forum and after reading about these wonderful C and C cages and array of wonderhomes had a go at making my own little indoor haven for them.
I started to handle them more often however not every day, but it wasn't long before they were wheeking when I was cutting their favourite veggies up and Coco in particular was such a little muncher! Coco and twiglet had such a strong bond together and apart from the odd strutting floor show usually when twiglet was chasing Coco they really were the best of buddies. He loved cucumber, cabbage and fresh grass and would happily love a cuddle and nuzzle into my neck.
Yesterday evening I noticed that Coco wasn't as active as he normally is and was sleeping quite alot, although he was eating he didn't seem interested in his favourite cabbage and cucumber combo. I posted a thread on here this morning and then Sarah from where I rescued him from contacted me and gave me some advice and support. Me and my husband started him on 2 hourly feeds and I took him to the emergency vets, he was prescribed some medicines and they seemed to think he had some dental issues and booked him to have his operation tommorrow at 8am. After bringing him home he laid quietly on me for most of the day with hourly feeds but I knew that he was just not well enough for the operation tommorrow. An hour before he passed away I placed twiglet next to him and they just snuggled up together and Coco passed away very peacefully with him at his side.
I can honestly say although I only knew you for 5 months Coco you brought me so many smiles and I will never forget your cheeky little face and your so soft velvety ears. Coco I feel so sad that you never got to run around in the garden in your hutch n run and taste the green grass now spring is coming. I promise I will find twiggy another cage mate to play 'toilet roll' with and although they will never replace you I know that you would want him to have another buddy to run around with and snuggle up with at night. Sleep well xx
