coconut

i'm a new owner and i was wondering does anyone know if my piggies can have coconut, i thought that if i took the hair off, the woody bit would be good to chew, also wondering about the fruit inside, anyone know anything about this? would love to hear, untill then my coconut waits, cheers from dinnertea
 
I wouldn't give it to mine but then someone else may know different. They're better off with hay for their teeth in my opinion- wood will only benefit the Incisors.
 
I know the actual cocnut is not good for them as high levels of sugars, but I have seen toys for sale at pet shops made from the wood of coconut so I guess that would be fine as a chew toy. Do be sure to remove all the hairy stuff though, would hate to think it could get stuck in their throat or something :-\
 
i give them hay too, they have hay to sleep in and timothy hay in there rack and some scattered about. after posting i did read that the fruit of the coconut was to fatty so won't give them that, still not sure about shell as a toy? they're off to the vet tomorrow to get checked over, i was told they were two boys so getting that checked also getting them checked for mights and to get the vet to teach me how to do there nails is there anything else i should be thinking of asking the vet to check? dinnertea
