This little fella is my newest addition... I picked him up yesterday from the Peterborough showground autumn show. There were many guinea pigs for sale, almost all boars. As I was walking past I spotted him right away, he was in a very small pen with 3-4 other pigs.

He looked so sweet, so I had the lady get him out for me so I could have a look at him. At first glance, I could not see any signs of fungal or mites... but since I've had him home with me, I have looked more into his coat and found many scabby sores on him (I DO NOT now regret getting him), this makes me feel even happier about getting him so that I can now make him better.

So I'm treating him for mange mites, as he's showing exactly the same symptoms as what my Gilly had, when I picked him up from a girl in wisbech many months ago.

I was told he's 2 1/2 months old, so when all clear I will be pairing him with my silver/white 6 week old baby rex boar 'Jack'.

If I don't see any improvement after treatment, I will take him to the vets.

So here is Coke!:

I believe he's a chocolate/cream/white roan abbyruvian.

oh, forgot to say I'm treating him with Xeno 450 ivermectin. This is what I was given from the vets when Gilly had mange mites. You treat them, then again a week later, then another week later and usually it's all cleared up - but can take a 4th treatment.

Emiley do remember that Xeno 450 is for pigs that weigh over 800g. Xeno 50 is for younger/smaller pigs.

I have some Xeno 50 on order, I wanted to get treatment started asap so I've used 450. 50 should be here in time for his next treatment xx

This is Jack, the baby boar he will be paired with:

Oh my goodness, what a pair of cutie pies...and those ears! :)

He is a cutie pie I can see why you took him in.

Is it definitely mites and not fungal? Are you keeping him out of your shed until he has the all clear?

I don't believe it's fungal, I know the symptoms can ve bery alike but I'm almost certain its mange mites. He's in the shed but in a brand new hutch on his own for now.

I have treatment here for fungal, and will start that if after 3 ivomecs he's not responding to it.

I just can't get over those ears...sooo cute! x)
