Apologies for posting in the wrong place, but just wanted some advice about my piggies and the cold weather.
They are 8 months old girls and currently in a hutch on the patio. I have a hutch cover on all day with a see through cover for day and an extra layer for night. I top up the hay twice a night but am still panicking if they are ok.
We have just moved house and do have a garage but it has no window or I could bring them in.
Any advice much appreciated x

I really suggest you should bring them indoors. It gets so cold outside and they are not able to deal with the cold. Far safer to bring them indoors. You will get to see more of them and spend more time with them too and you will love it. :)

I'm a fan of having indoor pigs too, but realise this isn't practical for everyone. If you really can't bring them inside for the winter, I think you need to look into more insulation for the hutch and also things like fleece cozies and microwavable snuggle pads for the girls.

I'm sure some more outdoor owners will be along soon to give you better advice though - good luck.

i think you should bring them in the garage, my piggies are in the garage even though it doesn't have a window and they still love it being all cosy and warm inside, just get them out reguraly for a cuddle and stroke:) xx

If you can bring them in the house that would be best for them. It is not always practical, my OH is allergic so my girls have a summerhouse. Your garage would be ok but only if you never put your car in it. We used to have lots of animals in my parents garage but you do have to keep the light on which could get expensive.

I also think you should move your piggies inside either to a shed or inside the house.

You might also think about using some fleece cozies and a heatpad as others have suggested. The cheapest place to buy a heatpad is www.vetuk.co.uk. They are about £12 and delivery is free if you spend over £19.

I sell fleece cozies and heatpad covers in aid of small animal rescues. These will help keep your piggies warm but are not a substitute for warmer, dryer and more sheltered accommodation.

See my website www.cavycozies.com Prices for standard cozies start at £6.50 which includes postage to the UK.

there is terriffic advice here and i hope it helps out, as i said ,n my thread 'cold weather' if in doubt, bring ,them in ! i know it sounds obvious and i don't want to offend anyone, but a piggy cannot go in a garage if a car is using it because of fumes, if you can't take piggies indoors place a sturdy box in the bedroom area that can't be moved around [cut out a piggy size door first tho,] and put the straw in that, although my ladies and gents are outside[except poorly etc] they nestle in the straw and are very toasty as a result bit like central heating really, and they can eat in bed if they like, also straw is a better insulater againest the cold hope everyone has been able to help oh, by the way piggies don,t like the cold but it is draughts that can nudge them onto rainbow bridge, obviously they need a little ventilation but be thoughtful how you arrange it.
