On Monday I took Otis to the cavy savvy vet an hour away because his squeeks weren't right and he sounded slightly snuffly / had dropped weight a little and i was worried it may be a URI. Vet said his lungs were clear but has given me a 5 day course of flagyl as a precaution as she said pigs are prone to respiratory problems. She said pigs do get cold symptoms though and recommended putting them in the bathroom when it's steamy and putting vicks rub around the rim of the cage?!

I haven't started him on the flagyl as vet agreed i should take it home to use if I was worried but i didnt want to give medicate unnecessarily.

Both pigs are sneezing more than normal and sound slightly snuffly but I worry I'm just being paranoid as the vet said lungs were ok (no nasal discharge, both are still eating, active and popcorning)

Their poos ar a little soft and slimy. I've noticed Wilbur has a small 'milky' white patch in the corner of his eye. I've booked him an appointment at the local vet 20mins away this afternoon (as the cavy savvy roadtrip is an ordeal) to check his eye and was thinking of asking for a short course of flagyl for him too and treat both pigs at once to get rid of cold symptoms. Does this seem sensible? Are their side effects with flagyl?

Me and the boyfriend who share the flat with the pigs both have colds at the moment so it's likely they've been exposed to germs (although I'm avoiding contact where possible).

Thanks x
