Coming soon...

Our new additions are here! Lily (left) and Buttercup.

There were a couple of scurries and a bit of teeth chattering on the way home, but everyone has now found themself a hay-adjacent hide to settle into. Fingers crossed they continue to bond well; Harry has apparently been a bit, errr, enthusiastic during the initial bonding :))

Naturally they're not posing for photographs yet so please enjoy this picture from the rescue in the meantime:

Also if anyone has any suggestions for names, please let me know! We usually keep rescue names but we already have one too many Harry Potter names in the house, so are looking for something a bit different 😂

What gorgeous girlies!

I have some name suggestions

Brown Agouti - Coco
Black with tan blaze on face - Flower

Those were the names that sprung to my mind as soon as I saw them.

Oh hello you beauties. I’m no god with names but they are both very pretty x

@VickiA I'm unfortunately not very good with names either, that's why we usually keep the names pets join us with 😂

@Betsy I like those names, Buttercup really suits a flower name with her markings!

I've thought about it and I'd really like to keep something of their original names in there; they were much loved in their previous home and I would like to keep a part of their history with them if I can. I'm currently looking for other variants / types of their respective flowers and not having much luck... there's an awful lot of ugly names for buttercups!

Beautiful girls ❤️ they have landed on their paws with you! I do like their names but I am sure you will decide on some others soon.

I tend to find that piggies choose their own names. Misty and Bramble were originally Calypso and Chai but as soon as I saw a picture of them they were Misty and Bramble. Misty now has a nickname of Misty Morning and Bramble although officially she is Miss Bramble (as GPU Rep) she is Bramble Wamble Quee (from the Edward Lear nonsense rhyme the Quangle Wangle's Hat). They both chose those names as they came to mind one day.

Your new piggies will choose their own names. They will suddenly come into your head one day. And that will be what they want to be called. If nothing suddenly arrives in your brain they want to be still be called Lily and Buttercup.

@Betsy I'm not sure I should be left alone with this power... they are currently Splodge-face and Rumbly-bum 🤦🏻‍♀️

It's a wonder my son has a normal name :)) Honestly I am so bad at coming up with names!
Nothing wrong with Splodge-face and Rumbly-bum. If those names came to your mind then that is what they want to be called!

I agree with @Betsy .I've got 2 girls called wig and mop and the 2 I adopted after are called fake cheesy and fake blackie cos they look a bit similar to 2 girls I had in the past called cheese and blackie.I'm terrible at naming females,I'm much better at naming males. The names I called my females have stuck and seem to suit them lol.

Although if they need to go the to the vets at any point,I'll have to give a different name.My local vets clipped mop and wigs nails and the receptionist laughed her head off when I rang up to book and she asked for their names.I don't think I can get away with fake cheesy and blackie though lol.

@Betsy They're very apt nicknames (Rumbly-bum out-rumbles even Harry) but I should probably give them different names, even if only to spare the vet as @Gem789 mentioned :))

At the moment I have two pairs of names I'm considering:

Maple (right in the picture) and Chestnut (I've given up on the flower theme, so how about autumn nature-themed names?)
Janet (left in the picture) and Rita (the grannies from Bluey, if anyone's had the pleasure)

I did also get a suggestion for Meghan and Lilibet but definitely not going that route 😂

I love the names splodge and rumbly, short versions suitable for vet visit! Mine are actually Georgie porgie and Boris Johnson. OH insists on calling Boris a rude name due to being christened by a very enthusiastic George and needing to be wiped clean twice. 😂

Magnificent feeties! I've not been treated to the guinea pig formerly known as Buttercup's feet yet but I look forward to it 😊 I can definitely see the resemblance!

Milton Keynes not far from Northampton so possible. I haven't seen many with that colouring. Is Kiki a little bit fluffy/scruffy?

We're in Bucks as well and adopted from a place not far over the border, so could be possible! I like the thought of their long-lost extended piggy families being closer than we think 🥰 I certainly haven't seen many with these kind of markings on their faces.

Our Harry is tan and black too but he's from Leicestershire - there seem to be quite a few with that colouring a little further up the M1...

They are now officially... Maple "Splodge-face" and Chestnut "Rumble-bum"! My husband has baldly stated that he will refer to them as Splodge-face and Rumble-bum only, though

I did spot a nick on Harry's nose this morning, though... we've not had any punch-ups (100% sure as I slept on the sofa last night as part of an ongoing disagreement with my mattress) and from the position, if it is a nip, he probably just got too into someone's personal space - but I'll definitely be keeping a close eye.

Otherwise, they all eat together and sleep nearby each other, even if the position of Top Pig still seems to be under discussion, and things have really calmed down, so trying not to worry. They mastered the "food is coming" noise I make on the first day, both have taken food from my hand, they explore and don't seem to worry when someone walks past or makes a loud noise nearby... generally I am really pleased with how we're doing!

I agree with @Betsy - names pop into your head sometimes, :D my boys were never meant to be called Eddie and Rory. I just called them in one day and realised that was it!

But, if, as you mentioned, you want to change but pay homage to their rescue names, Lilia could be lovely instead of Lily. It isn't HP-related either 😊

I really like the name Buttercup .. and I am struggling to find a related one without changing too much .. i have only come up with butter (which I actually think is fab haha) and wildflower xx
