I'm looking for some advice and opinions here. Our piggies have had got their own small room upstairs, which has its good points. The room is north facing, and keeps pretty cool in the summer, and also because there is only one outside wall, it doesn't get too cold in winter either. But the northerly aspect (and an extension outside blocking the light somewhat) make it a rather dark room, which worries me a bit.
I've been wondering whether we could sometimes put the guineas in the conservatory, which, while it is also north facing, obviously is considerably lighter because of the glass roof. Also, it would probably be more cheerful for them in other ways, as they'd see a lot more of us (it adjoins the kitchen and the lounge). Upstairs they're a bit out of the way really, and unless we make lots of trips to see them, they're on their own a lot.
If we got extra cages for the conservatory, would it be alright to keep the pigs down there for as much time as possible, but transfer them to the cages upstairs in too-hot weather, or if it's too cold in winter, particularly at night time?
Is it confusing for guinea pigs to move from one room to another, or do they not mind? I just want to do what's best for them.
