I have become a bit concerned over my pigs' diet as there has been the odd patch of chalky wee and I think they have been getting a bit too much calcium. I have tried to get my head around the calcium to phosphorus ratio thing but it completely confuses me. So I thought I'd try ratewatchers. I have just given them their first set of veggies using ratewatchers but it does not include some fruit and veggies that I give them. Is there any way of including them. They are:
Green beans
Baby corn
Blueberries
Watercress
Thanks very much x>>
P.S. I hate my scales already, they keep turning off mid weigh lol
Umm, I have no idea how to help you, but just thought I'd bump this. I don't really understand the calcium-phosphorous ratio thing either.
Hope someone gives you some advise soon.
P.S with your scales. I need to get some digital ones because mine are *@#$! lol
I used to follow the ratewatchers too, but have since switched to my normal veg after talking to rodentologist about diet. I dont feed spinach, kale or parsley anymore as they contain high amounts of calcium and since doing this the boys now hardly ever have chalky urine. I only feed carrots once or twice a week and sweetcorn as a treat once a month. (Mine dont like fruit) I cant see anything wrong with feeding a little fruit just give in small amounts and feed vegetables in moderation and not in large amounts. When i first started the ratewathers i was surprised on how much i was over feeding the boys with veg and now they have two smaller portions daily and i must say they have lovely shiny coats and are bright and alert as ever. I know it can be very confusing about veg but as long as you feed everything in moderation and give small amount 50g per pig per day they should be fine.
Have been out for the day and got back to find quite a few pale poos which we don't have usually. It's definitely Gertie as I saw her pass one and Izzie too as hers are smaller but Buzz and Woidy's are slightly paler too. This must be the change in diet. We are still getting the white wee too. Off to vets on Tuesday anyway as Gertie is scratching again so will ask then. All seem fine in themselves though.
