I'm totally at a loss now as to what to do with Darwin! You can see what's been happening on this topic:
Skin Help
But basically, since being neutered he will absolutely not tolerate any touching from his head backwards. He's ok being held and picked up, but any attempt to touch him anywhere besides his head results in spasms.
He is having his last ivermectin treatment for lice on thursday, but I thought I saw something in his fur so flea combed it anyways and looked under my bug buster - nothing there! His skin is pink and there are no blemishes or scabs.
Where can I go from here? I'm booking him into the vets tomorrow to see if they can help. Would a soothing shampoo help, or are there any specifically designed for what I'm assuming is incredibly sensitive skin?
Thanks for any help x

Oh poor Darwin :soz: So sorry he's in this spot of bother Amy, what a kerfuffle :(
Paws crossed the vets will find the cause of his irritation x

Thanks Tim! Poor little dude, he's a special chap <3 Hope the vets can help, I haven't a clue what to try next!

Has fungal been ruled out? how is his hair, does it seem greasy at all? is his skin any pinker than normal?

Poor Darwin and poor you trying to help him.
Could he be having an alergic reaction to the invermectin? Maybe he will improve when he has finished the course of treatment.
Hope the vet can help.

I have expenced this in a pig before , they seem hyper sensative to touch but there was no apparant cause , my vet put it down to reactivate memory of a prevous parasite infection , l was advised to rub and antiparasitic cream on the affected area to cool the scin down and to kill any parasite that were present , it did help but it took a few hours to take efects

I've just read your other thread and this is exactly what happened with Toast after she was spayed. She would not allow anyone to touch anywhere near her back/bum, only her head, and this only happened after the spay. I assumed it was just that she was still a bit sore but 4 weeks went by and she was still so jittery when I tried to pet her back, she would kick out her back legs and look like she was having some kind of fit, until I stopped.

The vet checked her over and said her wounds and surrounding skin looked good and could only put it down to being very touch sensitive.

It's only now, about 6 weeks after being spayed that she is letting me touch her back again without freaking out. I still don't know what caused it, she just seemed extremely sensitive to touch...

I hope Darwin feels better soon x

His skin is just so clean and clear! It's not dry or anything, and he isn't itchy. His coat is lovely and shiny too! I'm started to wonder if it's more of a psychological thing perhaps? Xx

Thank you <3 I wondered the same thing too! He's always used it but perhaps he's become too sensitive to it now! x

That's a relief to know Darwin is not alone with his skin! Poor Toast, I'm glad she's better now. Fingers crossed he also get better like her! It's good to know the vet found Toast to be healthy too :D x

My Leobard is an itchy sausage too, ive often caught him under the rim of his pigloo using it as a back scratch! We treat for parasites as a precaution twice a year and can find no sign of any. Ive noticed it gets worse the closer it gets to the time his grease gland needs cleaning, I often wonder if thats anything to do with it. He practically rolls over if you touch there while its grubby.

That's a good point actually! I never thought of that! I'll check his grease gland this evening xx

He's back! Darwin just out of the vets :) The vet says he's developed hyper-sensitivity of his skin due to the lice infestation he had on arrival :0 She thinks it might diminish with time. He's also got a little bump where one of his testicles was removed, but she's not sure yet whether its the start of an abscess or just fibrous scar tissue. So she's asked if we can keep hold of him for the next 7-10 days to see how the bump progresses! I'll let you know how he gets on
