Hi all. We just brought a pair of guineas home but I wondered if anyone could advise on one sow… one of her eyes looks quite different from the other, not as wide/bright… we were told when buying that it was fine but I’m not feeling totally reassured. Is there a way to share a photo here? Thanks a lot 🙂

Hi and welcome

Once your registration has been fully processed (which may take a little while), you will be alllowed to upload pictures. Since we are not part of social media we have found that the best way is to upload them via the Attach Files button by your post when you write it; this works for any format.

If in any doubt, we strongly recommend a vet check with any new guinea pigs; especially second-hand ones. Vets have a special dye to then check the eye for damage under uv light. An injury is often more extensive than visible to the naked eye and requires prescription-only (UK regulation) eye drops or gel etc. For eye problems you do not have to see an exotics vet as eye treatment and medication is exactly the same as for cats and dogs; any decent general vet will do. With pet shops you have reimbursement rights re. vet cost if you can document the sale and the issues with a vet bill.

Hello and welcome to the forum. I’m sorry your piggy’s eye is causing you concern.

Welcome to the forum.
Hope you can get your piggy’s eye checked.
One of my boars was a runt and had dodgy eyes but they didn’t cause him any problems.
The vet told me what it was called but I can’t remember now.
