Yesterday I went to a pet shop with my flatmates to buy a couple of fish and we also just looked round at the other pets. One of the Guinea pigs looked obviously pregnant as she was bulging at either side, i wanted to buy her and take her home but couldn't as its not allowed in our uni accomodation but I'm just concerned that someone will buy her and then have many unexpected mini's.
The whole pet section was horrible they even sold puppies and kittens and they had nothing in their pen to play with. and a huge parrot didn't have hardly any room in its cage, another guinea pig looked unwell but when i pointed out the guinea pigs they didn't seem to care at all and just said 'oh are they...' and walked away.
Is it even allowed to sell puppies and kittens in shops? I want to report this place but I don't think anything would happen unless they were actually breaking the law

I didn't think small pet shops were allowed to sell puppies and kittens any longer. I know there are large places that sell puppies though and have licences to do it but thought small pet shops have stopped selling them. I suppose it depends what they have on their licence. Wonder if it's worth reporting it to the RSPCA to check out?

Where abouts was this pet shop, i dont live far from Herts.

Hmm, I was thinking the same. I have a feeling about where it is and thought that they were no longer able to sell animals. Don't suppose it starts with a 'J' does it?

Whereabouts in Leeds is it, in the centre? I know someone on another forum that lives in Leeds.

It's terrible that they are also selling puppies and kittens as well as fish.:... Thanks for the link.:)

Yeah the puppies looked so sad and had nothing to play with. Also they were selling them for £120 which means for them to make a profit they must be buying them very cheap so it worries me where these puppies have come from... probably a puppy farm:(

I didn't know about puppies but I recently discovered through another forum that there are loads of pet shops selling kittens. I had thought it was illegal here now but apparently not - not sure about the puppies though! I would report it to the RSPCA and see if they do anything or the local Council as they might review their license.

Just got back from work and I spoke to someone there about it and she said that a few years ago they had their licence taken off them and they wern't allowed to sell pets... dunno wots happened between now and then but it does have a different name {:|

The last time I saw a puppy for sale in a pet shop was 25 years ago in the New Forest. There were a couple of puppies in the window ... horrible!

Are there any members of this forum living near this store that could pop in and take a look?
Sorry, I would if I lived nearer but I am in the West Country.
