Concrete?

Can piggies run on concrete, the problem I have is my front garden is just a drive with no grass, and my back garden... well my mum had this genius idea, a couple of years ago to covert all the grass in the back garde to pebbles, so now I am left with pebbles and concrete.

I want to take my piggies, outside when the weather is nice, and get them a run (they come out for floortime everyday) but I was thinking, can the run on concrete? anf if so how long for?
 
I'm sure they can have a run on concrete, I think it even helps with their nails - i'm not sure if there's any time limit they can stay out on it though :-\
 
I would just be aware that in the heat and sunshine concrete gets very hot, burns my feet dont know what it would do to gps!
 
Yes, I was thinking about puttin carpet or something down for them to run on, well I will try it out and see how it goes. They have grass to eat because my best friend lives next door, and I am allowed his grass, and I know it is not been treated, as he too as guinea pigs and rabbits which eat this grass :)

I had this problem a few years ago - my solution is to go to the garden centre and buy some rolls of turf (Cost about £2.50 a roll and you will probably only need a couple if you have a big run) just make sure it hasn't just been chemically treated and lay this down on top of the concrete, pop your run on top so you can put your guineas out on grass. The turf will last a few weeks if you water it in between the guineas using it - my guineas loved it!

If you do put them out on concrete make sure it isn't damp and that the guineas have somewhere to go so they can get off the concrete as it gets cold plus lots of hay so they can still munch through out the day.

mine are on the concrete at the moment, because i need to gradually introduce the grass to maisy who gets a tummy ache eating too much, i put pigloos out, and boxes so they dont sit on the cold concrete. if it's shaded in the summer the copncrete might cool them down.
 
Make sure that you have quite a few items in the run to keep the guineas mental and physically stimulated. O0
 
In really hot weather you can hose it down to cool it off before putting them in it. You could put a gazebo up to shade them too :)
 
I put Merlin out on the balcony after the sun has gone in as cooler

He loves running laps around it
 
Mine go out on the concrete if the grass is damp - it helps to keep their toes down too! I put some newspaper over half the run so they have a choice of where to sit, and their play things/houses etc. I pick clover, put hay in there for them and a few treats. I've spotted them laying down on the concrete (although not in high summer, they're always on grass then) so they can't find it too uncomfortable!
 
Same here... Our back garden is partly bricked and partly concrete slabs. I put a few layers of newspaper down to cover the bottom of the run which is situated on the concrete slabs. I'm lucky tho cos part of our back yard is under a clear roof 'carport' thingy and one side of the run is against a wall (if you can imagine it!) so the newspaper doesnt get that wet when it rains. My 2 girlies dont seem to be missing out on the grass side of things. I buy a pot of 'grow your own grass' from pets at home every so often so they have something new to taste other than their usual drymix/veggies/timothy hay, although you dont get much for your money. Might get round to buying some grass seed and growing it in a seed tray one day for them to have a good munching session :laugh:. I was concerned about not having any grass when I first got my piggies but Ive seen others that go without grassy areas at my local college (teaching animal care) and they seemed fine. So it can be done! Good luck! O0
