Ok peeps, I have read about dry food until my head is spinning but I still can't decide what would be best for the girls. I made the schoolgirl error of thinking Gertie was ok :red and then tried them on pellets (Burgess) when I discovered how evil Gertie is, but they won't even touch them rolleyes

I'm sorry to ask such a novice question, but please can somebody advise me what is best for my twosome. They get limitless hay and a small bowl of varied fresh veggies, so its really just the dry food I'm confused about.

Thank you so much ;)

My two love the burgess pellet. The other quite good food to try is Wagg. You can pick this up in Asda. I think its trial and error sometimes what they will eat. My two are picky with veggies when I've had pigs before that would eat anything!

Mine have gone off Burgess after a year and are now on similar quality p@h pellets.

I would strongly recommed that you do either a cold turkey shift - that has taken me three weeks with one persistent Gertie's girl until she gave in. I have given her a bit more veg during that time and have made sure that I included an extra portion of high vitamin C like peppers, broccoli or parsley.

Or you can try a mix of Gertie's and Burgess, slowly shifting the mix towards the pellet food.

It is perfectly normal that weaning a piggy off Gertie's and eating very selectively is usually not very welcome!

Thanks both. Think its time to get tough then! They're both still relatively young so hopefully there won't be too much stamping of paws! :)

try the P@H nuggets we used to feed our on wagg but they used to selective feed they seem to prefer the Nuggets and have more energy they're not dear either

We use the P@H ones too as our lot turn their noses up at Wagg and Burgess ones. Even Nigel though he will eat Science Selective ones if he is in the mood.

Mine are on the 'posh' Oxbow Cavy Cruisine' :p

They are really tiny in comparison to burgess. I actually changed mine onto this because they are Timothy based and lower in calcuim so better for my piggie that has had stones. Whereas the others seem to be Alfalfa based.

Mine lived on Gerty for years, put them on half P@H nuggets half gerty earlier this year, all of them ate them for a couple of weeks and now ALL of them leave all the flipping nuggets, even Cherry who used to love them.

I have just started them on Allen and Page guinea food

(Their branding is the Natural Petfood Co but I know them as Allen and Page the horse feed people!)

First night I put a little bit in with the other two feeds to see how they liked it. Went down in the morning and literally nothing from the A&P one was left! It is also loads cheaper than Gerty and no artificial colours.

Very interestingly since moving to this, mine have left ALL the artificially coloured bits of the Gerty...maybe they read the packet...?! :))

Mine eat the spillers museli 15kg sack, they leave bits but if I`m a mean piggie owner and don`t fill the bowl up they will eat it .x:)
