Adult Guinea Pig
Well Liquorice has seen the vet, and apart from mild conjunctivitis, she seems ok in herself.
On her last weigh in at the vets, she weighed 1.06kg.. today she weighed .99kg. That's a 15g loss. Over the weekend, she was quiet, not eating as much but still eating. Her dropping are normal. She hasn't damaged her eye, thank goodness, but it must be itching to cause her distress and depression.
The vet suggested it might be her teeth, but when she eats, she has no trouble at all, and when the vet checked her, she had a little food ball which made it hard to see her back teeth, which she said was normal for a guinea with an appetite.
Liquorice sat and let her get on with it, though by the time vet had reached her claws she'd just abouts had enough and turned to me for support. Vet couldn't take much off, as she has quite long quicks.
If she looses anymore over the next 24 hours, she's going in on Friday for a GA and an examination. Failing that, she's gonna have her eye swabbed and they'll try and find out what is behind it. It's not a contagious strain, as the others don't have it.
My question is, can conjunctivitis cause enough depression to cause weight loss in a piggy?
