Turns out these two 'butter wouldn't melt....' piggies have been conning mummy-pig and daddy-pig. We have been a little bit naughty lately and have got into a habit of giving Toby & Barney a little treat every night - usually a little piece of carrot each. Well, they like this and so usually at about 9pm they start trying to climb our legs while we are watching TV. Toby has even done some pretty impressive jumping. I am not entirely sure how we will break that cycle without absolute mutiny. However, as we were discussing what to do about it MrS admitted they he has been giving them a little treat of basil, mint or parsley when he comes in from work because they do 'really good standing still for scrunches'. I then had to admit that I do the same but with a bit of apple or melon.

Well - if you knew my pigs you would realise that they don't stand still for anyone. So we continued observation and realised that we really have been well trained. They know they can make their slaves do tricks when we come in from work - they come up to us, stand still, let us give them lots of strokes, and then because we are so pleased that they let us do it - guess what - yup - we give them treats! After that they will not do any more standing still no matter how much we beg them and it is because they know there is no more food involved! So now they are getting 3 treats a day - those little tinkers know exactly what they are doing!

Awww, they've got it all worked out, haven't they! They do look the picture of innocence in that photo, though!

Your boys have you both well trained. I love 'them!

They are gorgeously portly & now we know why! Piggies are really rather clever in how they manage to get us slaves to deliver food to them.

Awww! Fat piggies :drool: more to cuddle and squeeze!
I think we have all been trained without realisation they have done that!

Still.... :love::love:

I've started giving my boys handfuls of different hays instead of the treats it did work took some time however, and lots of different hays on their food cupboard. Murray even lost a little wieght xx

That's a good idea. I'd like to do that but we are so limited in the types of hay we can get here. Only one or at most 2 types are ever available at the same time. Recently we've gotten the Oxbow Harvest Stacks in the country, timothy hay plain, with carrot & with chamomile. At about 15pounds for just under a kilo too expensive to use as a regular hay. But it is lovely soft green stuff so have recently acquired a box to see if they'd like it for a treat. My 2 new rescues Donny & Mason are mad for it. But my long time residents Hazelnut & Peanut Butter took an initial liking & have now turned their backs on it!

they used to have 6 different types of hay but went off 3 of them so they now have unlimited meadow (bedding), unlimited Timothy & rye and a rack full of dandelion & marigold a day.

Wow.... :eek:
They have wrapped you around their paws! My piggies have one type of hay and have only changed it as Rory was being fussy. Got them on meadow hay.

I'm not sure if I should feel a little embarrassed now! Lol!

I'm probably lucky as the Five eat everything without a problem and no fuss. Although when I got Rory he didn't seem to know what hay was and would only have the odd nibble since we got Hop he's more active at eating it. OH thinks I'm to stern with them sometime though...

I don't know how to be stern with my 2. Which is probably also why they get a mixture of 4 different types of nuggets because I thought they would like it more than just a single type!:hmm:

Well gives them a variety :D:D

They're clever little creatures, all of them!

My pair have been known to con myself and hubby into thinking that they really haven't had their tea and they're absolutely starving because they've been forgotten about. Two weeks ago they managed to get three portions of pellets out of the pair of us by using the above tactics. :D
